990, 996 & 996 SELECTAMATIC (1965 - 1971)
The synchromesh 12-forward 4-reverse gearbox became, in 1971, standard equipment on all DB tractors, except the 1212. The indefatigable 990 continued, now with the synchromesh gearbox. The 995 and 996, with 62 engine hp, filled the gap between the 990 and the former 1200 class. The 996 featured a hand-operated PTO clutch although, unlike the 1200 class, its hydraulic pump was retained behind the gearbox. The 1210 synchromesh took over from the 1200.
When DIN engine hp ratings were adopted in 1972, the 990 became 58 DIN, and 996 and 995 - 64 DIN. The 1210 and 1212 were unchanged at 72 DIN hp. The DB designed and built safety Weatherframe was also introduced in 1971. The alternator became standard fitment in 1973.
