4600 selectomatic

Post by wasagapaul » Thu Oct 31, 2019 3:30 am

Good evening, I was, what I thought to be lucky enough to be able to pick up this DB 4600 loader at a decent price. Since then I have had a really hard time trying to under stand what kind of tractor I actually have. I know one thing for sure it is an import. Other than that, I have heard all kinds of scenarios. From what I have been told I have one style of chassis and a different style of engine.
Is there any way I can confirm what I actually do have. This would make part ordering way easier and far less expensive.

Who ever you me be thank you so much for your anticipated help.

Paul from Canada.

G'Day Paul and welcome to the forum.
Need a lot more info to be able to answer your question and a picture is also worth a thousand words. If you have the time you can also go to the gallery of this Forum and see if one looks the same as yours and this can be a starting point.

If you Google "David Brown 4600 Selectamatic", and find the Tractor Data home page, you will get a lot of information. First of all, your tractor has a 3-cylinder gasoline engine, made by David Brown, as supposed to the diesel engine used in the agricultural version of the tractor. I think the 4600 was a gasoline version of the 880 Selectamatic. The engine is almost the same as the diesel engine in a 880 Selectamatic and the loader is most likely a US one fitted in US or Canada. Not many countries outside USA and Canada had interest in gasoline engine tractors after the 1950`s

There is a service manual that covers your tractor :

some of these tracts while labelled Selectamatic actually were implematic. There are major differences in them.
As others say they should be the petrol ( Gasoline) versions of tractors sold elsewhere with Diesel engines.
If it is 3 cylinder as a 4600 it is a 880 model
if you can post pictures of the engine and hydraulic controls it will be much easier to identify

I have never heard about a 4600 Selectamatic with Implematic hydraulics. This was, to my knowledge, something in conjunction with diesel engine tractors only. Selectamatic labelled tractors with Implematic hydraulics was made for the USA only, and the model designation was for example 880UE, the letter "U" showing it is a model for USA only. The 880 had a diesel engine only and the 4600 had a petrol engine only.

Click on board index

There is a couple of posts there as how to do it

If your using Apple you can click and resize the image but it takes a while and a few goes to get it right

Keep resizing and trying to send - Eventually you will hit on a size that works

But I am a Luddite that hasn’t really got a clue with modern stuff
