885 body variations

885 body variations

I own an 885, and have noticed several variations in them.

the exterior bonnett, one has a scoop style and the other doesnt.
Then there is 2 different dash's a white metal rounder dash and a black square plastic one.

am i right in thinking the black dash goes with the bonnett with the scoop thing and the round dash goes with the flat bonnett?

at what point / year did this change happen?

The top picture shows a David Brown cab fitted to a straddle tractor and the bottom picture shows a Sekura S74 cab. The Sekura cab was built side by side with the so called Q-cab, as the Q-cab did not fulfil regulations and customer demands in the Scandinavian countries. The Sekura cab was sold as a "Deluxe" cab in the UK and some other countries and the price for this was higher than for the Q-cab version. The Sekura cab had the option of two different roofs and the one in your picture is the Low roof version. The High roof cab had the heater mounted in the roof and it also incorporated a roof hatch. The Q-cab could not be homologated in many Scandinavian countries, and therefor only the Sekura cab was available in these countries. These cabs came into production in 1976 if I can remember correctly. The bonnet shape and the dash board had the same shape in both the Q-cab and Sekura cab tractors. The frame work (body) have no impact on the cab versions but the tin works are different. The shape of the rear end of the bonnet is dependent on the shape and size of the fuel tank

ollek is quite correct in his summary of cabs although i would like to add the following with regard to the Sekura cab in the UK.

Here in the UK we had two versions of Sekura S74 cab as follows.

The "David Brown Low Profile Q-Cab" as in the lower photograph was available on the 885, 990, 995 & 996 models as an alternative to DB's own manufactured Q-cab & at the same price. It had two gear levers between the drivers knees similar to the normal safety cab models. It had a low roof without hatch or heater.

The "David Brown De-Luxe Q-Cab" was an option at extra cost on the 1210, 1212, 1410 & 1412 models. I have occasionally seen this cab on 990 series tractors in the UK but i am not sure if they were officially fitted. Sometimes we had models which were for other markets but for one reason or another remained in the UK. The De-Luxe cab had the main gear lever on the right & two range levers on the left similar to DB's own Q-cab. It had the high roof with heater & hatch.

Question for ollek?
Was the cab fitted for the Scandinavian market the De-Luxe version or a Low Profile version but with the high roof/heater/hatch. Was the cab the same across the whole range (885 to 1412).

The cab you call "De-Luxe version"! is in fact a Secura S74 cab and this is not a Q-cab. The original Q-cab was completely different in shape and outlook. Low roof S74 had no roof hatch and virtually no cab heater and most Scandinavian countries demanded a hatch and a efficient heater and bigger doors then those in the Q-cab. The only factory fitted cab for the Scandinavian market was therefor a Sekura S74 with high roof. The reason for these cabs was stricter regulations coming into force in Scandinavia. One of these new regulations was the maximum sound level at the drivers ear, and this needed a floor to be fitted to the cab. All tractors for Scandinavia had Sekura S74 cabs.
