Gear Lever Rubber Boots
Is it simply a matter of removing the gear knob on an 880 Selectamatic, and sliding the boot on, or does the boot have to be ‘fitted’?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I don't know specific to the 880, but if it's like my 885, the boot just slipped right on. It was a good snug fit.

Do the gear knobs unscrew?

One of mine came undone and the other was stuck fast.
I ended up putting a little washing up liquid over the gear knob and slid the boot over the whole lot. Mine (cheap of eBay) fit well but don’t stay on when you change gear. Just for reference.

Usually large slip jaw pliers will remove the knobs or break them, put some old rag over them first if you dont want to mark them, plastic zip ties will keep the boots on same on leaver if rubber is loose.

Hi, putting a hose clamp on first then using your slip jaw pliers on that saves damaging the knob too

Well they’re on but they don’t stay fitted on the bottom, especially on the H/L lever. The original ones seemed to be fitted. Oh well...

I just purchased a pair from davidbrownsupplies for our 30C and hopefully they will fit nicely when I re assemble the tractor. These ones look similar to but not the same as a rubber boot for a rack and pinion steering box.

I got them from Mayhill.
Re: Gear Lever Rubber Boots
I replaced the ones on my late 900, they would not stay in place on the transmission, I ended up cleaning up the casting a little with an angle grinder to make a better lip, and installing them with silicone gasket sealer. They have held up good since then. The boots came from davidbrownparts
