1490 injector pump
Hi,I am getting the injector pump off a 1490 sorted out because it was just sticking the odd time, anyway when I went to pick it up the guy told me that it is not the right pump for a 1490 because the fuel delivery from it would really only suit a 50 hp tractor and not the 86hp supposedly for the 1490,he can increase the fuel flow from the pump to increase the power a good bit but said it should have a different size head on the pump fitted to get the full power from it,there was stamped digits on the pump, one which read 42 and apparently that is nowhere near what the fuel flow should be,there is a turbo on this tractor, just wondering can anyone shed more light on this or has anyone come across this before thanks
Re: 1490 injector pump
The following is a link to the parts catalogue page, showing the pump types. The pump type is stamped to a plate fixed to the pump. The pump type stamping do not show the delivery amount. This can be found from a special card supplied by the pump manufacturer specifically for each pump and tractor type. You will have to know the correct pump type and delivery amount for the tractor before you can say that the pump is not the correct one.

Re: 1490 injector pump
Maybe just that David Browns are so fuel efficient!!! You might have 150hp from it now

Re: 1490 injector pump
If the pump type, according to the parts catalogue page, is incorrect, then someone with little or no understanding about injection equipment's, have fitted the wrong pump. And, you can not compere the delivery amount between pumps and engines to tell how much power you will get out of the engine. Different engines are more or less efficient and only the correct figures given by the pump and engine manufacturers gives the correct engine performance.

I have just been informed that the link I have talked about is not there, sorry for that. Please find the link in the following https://partstore.caseih.com/us/parts-s ... 9ar1246380
Re: 1490 injector pump
As ollek suggests the first thing you should do is to check that the pump is the correct one for the tractor model. The pump reconditioner will work from the details on the pump identification plate, not the tractor model.
Re: 1490 injector pump
Great thanks for all that info,he is going to turn up the diesel flow in that pump and is adamant it's the wong pump,if the power is good then I might leave it at that for now, very strange thing for someone to put a wrong pump on,he will have a look out for the proper pump head thou,as long as it doesn't leave it smokey or anything but probably shouldn't
Re: 1490 injector pump
Well got injector pump back turns out it has the right head when the guy checked into it fully, but the fuel flow setting was way off,so that was increased a good bit and is running with great response from throttle and definitely more power now!
