Draining a 1210 gearbox oil !

right... it was a sunny evening here in the high peak, so i decided to drop the gearbox/hydraulic oil.....
i got several plastic drums ready for the waste oil, i undid the drain plug, and the oil rushed out for about 5 seconds!!!!, then turned to a steady drip, until finally an odd drip every few minutes!!!!!!..
so i seem to only have about 5 litres drained out!!!!!...
so, where is the rest!!!!!?, i knew it was low because it wasn't registering on the sight glass!!!
and now i have a dilemma, do i attempt to take the bottom filter housing off now, as it is empty.....
or... is there another 30 litres stuck above the filter just waiting to pour out all over me!!!!
any ideas what i should do now!!!?

You won't get a sudden rush of oil if you remove the filter housing pan as the filter is up in the bottom of the suction pipe. You may get a bit more oil out that's settled in the bottom of the pan but only about a cup full. Look under the PTO housing and also under the belly where the cross-bar on the front of the drawbar cradle crosses, you may find a large hexagon bung in either or both locations where you will be able to drain down a bit more oil as these 2 points are a bit lower than the bottom of the gearbox.

o my goodness!!!! the ************ drain plug on the filter housing isnt a drain plug!!! come on man do you expect someone to undo the top hat to drain the oil, intimidator, your tractor sounds low on oil and its all out, yes undo the 1"1/4 plug below the diff to get another pint out, the filter is readily available online or from a dealership,

oooh.... looks like i have been bo*****ed!!!!!!..
has anyone got any photo,s of exactly where i should be undoing...
and also how to get the filter housing off without damaging the seal etc.
as i have undone the nuts, but not taken them completely off, but the filter housing wont budge!!!

Are all 9? (or is it 10?) bolts out.
If they are, a gentle tap on the side of this plate with a wooden or rubber mallet should loosen it. Try not to separate it from the housing with a screwdriver blade, as that may damage the gasket.

If you're careful, you can re-use the gasket rather than have to buy another. The oil in here is at low pressure, so it's not going to be spurting out like a fountain if your gasket isn't absolutely 100%.

I think one contributor suggested facing the old gasket with silicone sealant.

If you do that, make sure NONE of it gets inside the housing. set silicone sealant will clog your system up unless your filter catches it first.
