Clean 1594 for sale. What should a non experienced 4 clylinder DB person look out for in the 6 cylinder DB's. She is tempting. Might trade the 1210 and 1412 in on her :)

Mitch,

To steal a march on Broadsword, he'd probably say 2 pistons out of the side of the block and the oil pump out of the bottom.

But, have to say it looks a very, very attractive beast.

Faint heart n'er won fair maid, nor a 6 pot.

ask if it has had the oil pump replaced, if not then have the preasure checked, that the biggest concern engine wise, being a 1412 man im sure you will know how a proper hydrashift should feel,

Hi Mitch,

she looks `an absolute beaut`!!.

At that price as long as they are throwing in a grey fergie and a strong chain you should,`t go far wrong :roll: .

The main things to check are rods through the side of the block and deos she go backwards and forwards!!!

On a serious note for once, and I`m sure the `old sage` Scooby will back me up on this. They are actually a good tractor, you probably know how to spot problems with the hydrashift, the main thing is they do not like being ************ about with or any lack of servicing. Any evidence of serious abuse or lack of maintenance/oil/filter changes etc and you are in no mans land.
To be fair she looks a really nice thing and as its at a dealer they will probably of checked over her and serviced it etc.
Those back wheel are something though, a nice big fruity big wheeled prairie style tractor :wink: :wink: - oh dear I`m getting an urge to own a 6 POT, quick cold water to the back of the neck and medication :lol:

for once I stand up for the 1594`s and this is the abuse I get. I completely refute that statement Scooby;

1) I do not whinge

2) I have not sold a car to a little old lady for ages.

3) Selling dodgy motors to unsuspecting??; err, err, I`ll come back to you on that one :roll: .


SERIOUSLY THOUGH, Mitch has asked a serious question, are there any points that you need to look out for on purchasing a 1594, I have never driven a hydrashift, Come on you 6 POT guys, what do you need to look out for???

These comments make me laugh. Is 12737 pounds too much Scooby? I think about $17-18000 is fair?

To change oil pump would mean dropping fwd shaft??? This machine would never have used the lift arms, all drawbar work in the cropping areas, hence the big rear tyres. I will try and get serial number.

Morning Mitch,

The serial no. is quite important. If it is a late tractor then it will have had the newer oil pump anyway but I do not know when they started fitting them. A price of $17,500 is about £9,649.00 and it might struggle to make that sort of money over here. Having said that it looks a very nice tractor and I would buy it at that price from what I can see.

I notice that it doesn't have the quick-fit linkage arms. Were they not fitted if they were mostly used for trailed work ?

To be honest there isn't a lot to look for beyond the obvious. Water in oil and vice versa, tight Hydra-Shift, play in front and rear wheel hubs, and general appearance. If air-con is fitted then check that. Listen/look at the hydraulic pump coupling (I presume it will have dual pumps). How does it drive ? Does it wander down the road ? P.T.O clutch working O.K. and disengaging alright ? I guess that everything starts well in your climate but this tractor isn't that keen on very cold weather but a bit of heat soon sorts that out.

Morning Mitch,

I would ignore the price, you cannot compare prices in Oz with prices over here, your agricultural machinery and cars are more exspensive there than over here, its what its worth in Australia that counts - true it would be cheaper here but imagine the shipping costs and imprt duty!!!

On the subject of oil pumps, its a debateable area, the problem is if it was a later serial number ie one of the last, knowing Browns they probably were using up old stock, nobody really sure what pumps were fitted on what - I think it was a casting fault, most were fine, some not.

6 Pot Phil replaced his (the old one was fine anyway), James Firth had one fail on his but he caught it quick enough and no damage was done.

The only safe way I suppose it to re-new but they are about £400 sterling accross here. The other option is to wire up a buzzer on the oil light - at least you get immediate notice of a drop in pressure - just imagine the scenario, you are hard at work in the field with the radio on and you hear the news England have regained the Ashes with a double century by Kevin Pieterson :wink: , as your mind has wandered you`ve missed the glowing oil light for 2 minutes :roll: .

I think Scooby has covered the main points to look out for Mitch. Yes the fwd shaft has to come off (easy job) and then obviously the sump. A lot of people lift engine block out of the frame to change the pumps but it is doable with a few bent spanners & grazed knuckles to do in situe. Thats how i did mine anyway with a fair few swear words included.
I would'nt trust the "if its a late serial number the pump should be ok theory" though, just ask James Firth, he has a commemorative 1594 about 40 from the end and one of his rotars in the pump siezed up solid the other week. Luckily he turned it off straight away and saved the engine.

Thanks for all the advice lads. I tried ringing dealer today but he was off duty. You are correct prices here are dearer, much dearer if what I see on your ebay is right. I will get serial number and try and find original owner too. It is a 1550km round trip to go and have a test drive so I need my facts straight before I luanch into it.

Scooby your point about lift arms is a good one, dont know if they came with quick hitch or not. Just dont see many 6 pots round here to really know what they came with originally. Andy dont England hold ashes already :(

I will get some more info and let you know.

My lovely wife thinks three tractors is too much by the way. I tell her there an investment, she is not convinced.
