the best db of all time?

Post by thomasven » Wed Oct 28, 2009 10:48 am

i think the 1210 is the best db of all time :D despite dad thinking it is gutless  dad likes the 1494 and grandad likes the 880 selectamatic which is why our one is called the good little tractor because that is what grandad called it. either way 3 or four pot is the right way to be!

what does everyone else think the best db of all time is.

Hmmm. Tricky question. But if I put it on this way: Which model you would not hesitate to buy if a new one is for sale. I would not hesitate a half second to get new 880 selecta livedrive. With some other models maybe twice that much or more.

i say 1490. nippy thing. seems to have loads of power. was shifting 6 tonne trailer full of muck, 2 miles all up hill in top gear! close friends 990 cabbed is a nice drive but has no gut. 1594 is something else to drive!!
proud owner of a beloved bonser90d, 880 selectamatic and 1490 2wd synchro, and the mighty 1594!

our old 996 vq cab 78, it was hammered at the end and never gave up, my father neglected, never srviced it and just kept pushing it, it just kept going outpulled my 1390 on less diesel, just one of the best tractors ever, also 780, we had 2 of them, just loved the fact they pissed all over every 35 that came near them!! p.s like matt said 1594 is there lurking, hell of a machine but better came from meltham,

got to be a three pot 880 because you cant bust em,unlike all other tractors of the db range ,it beats all other tractor makes of the same hp,the power to weight ratio is spot on,and of course it was designed and built in yorkshire by yorkshiremen!

The 880 selectamatic is the best DB , i have driven and worked nearly all the models and this is the tractor that could do the work of a giant. remember doing spring discing and seeding on steep ground with ours and it would pull up the hills as well as 996, but at night 10pm in the fading light you could feel the differance in the damp cool air and it would pull like a train and have a lovely 6" glow out the top of the now black exhaust, and your feet were kept warm on the gearbox. this is DB NO 1 TRACTOR.

you know me, I hate agreeing with anybody!! but the 880 select. is the defining machine in the DB stable...ironic then that I ploughed £7k into a 770!!! ************.

The 2nd place for me would be the 1210 as after the big useless 1200 this thing was a revelation, in fact I'd go so far as to say that if the 1200 had been my first contact with DB I would be shop managing the Zetor club of Prague now.

that's not very nice i have one of those and dad seems to rate it higher than the 1210 judging by how much he uses it, it is supposed to be my tractor but he drives it more than me however i drive the 1210 more than him.
