In our region the DB's are quite good represented, even in the sports section (Anne :!:)

There are some more fans in Nova Scotia, any more DB pulling fans around on the forum?!

Hi Dieter,

How are you? Long time not seen.

That's indeed our tractor with me on it. The tractor is in a rather bad shape right now, one of the piston is melted. At this moment we are rebuilding the engine. To be continued...

Hi Anne,

Indeed, long time no see.

I'm fine, still working on the 1200 as other time consuming projects come in between :x , but it is getting there, clutch repaired, gearbox repaired, PTO repaired, reduction units adjusted and back on..

How are you and Koen doing?

That piston does not look good, do you know what caused the melting of the piston?

Groet, Dieter

I see on the sledge there is a digital read-out. Is this set up with a load cell to show the draw-bar pull or record distance travelled? Would make judging much easier. I have seen a sledge where a surveyor's measuring wheel is placed on one of the sledge's wheels to record distance. This was a cheap & easy set-up. In the vintage tractor pulling here, if the front wheels lift off, the tractor must be stopped immediately to prevent any back-flips.

Regards,
John

Hi John,

It is the distance that is being measured. On the more suffisticated sledge or lorry, this is measured with laser technology.

@ Alex, I do not know the HP of the 1410 now, but in the past, I thought Ruben was acting in the standard class, so maximum 100-110 HP on the PTO.
In Holland, tractorpulling is done by a number of protocols (differs per Tractor Pulling Committee). I come out in the standard classes, in which a tractor should be original and per class, there is a maximum power set, mmeasured at a Dyno after the competition. In the sport classes, there is a maximum engine displacement set and strict rules regarding approved fuel pumps, engine setups etc.

Do you want to build a puller for the standard class f.e. or a tuned up version for use in the sports class, like forummember Anne for example?

Hereby some usefull websites:

Kind Regards,
Dieter

Thanks for the info Dieter. There is equipment available now for drawbar testing large farm tractors which incorporates a strain gauge to give Kg pull and a radar can also be set up to measure true ground speed at the same time. This gear was available from Caterpillar for field testing their Challengers.
Also, strain gauges or weightometers with a remote digital read-out are available which are used when lifting loads and consist basically of a link with 2 shackle holes. These are very portable and are self contained. if you would like more info, let me know.

regards,
John

Hi, best way to tune up a 990 is to fit a engine out of a 14 series (1410/1412/1490/1494). Add a minimec injection pump from a 1410/1412 and a holset turbo and you are good for ca 150 HP. But watch the headgasket and the valveseats! If you want more HP, things are getting expensive. Think of big Holset turbo's, boring out the block for more displacement, flowing the head, other headers, etc.
