1212 Restoration

Post by dfjanda » Tue Jun 24, 2014 2:44 pm

My father and I have just recently completed this one:

Bought last fall from Bowling Green Kentucky in poor shape. Sheet metal had regular rusted areas but fairly straight overall. Engine was seized and full of water.

Also rebuilt a 1200 alongside

Transmission was toast, but had bought a 1394 for parts earlier in the year which donated its hydra-shift.

Ditched the power adjust 30" wheels in favor 34s that came off a 1490.

Almost done, just missing exhaust.

Being transported with a 995 to its first appearance at a local club gathering and road-run.

Probably the favorite of the collection right now. The 1212 model was the first tractor we purchased over 50hp in the late 80's. It was a orange one that we later sold to a family member but I have many memories of watching my dad use it and then graduating to it myself before we upgraded to a 1594. The tires and wheels on this one are not original size and my father was unsure about that. Our orange 1212 had 34's and 10" wide fronts that where most likely robbed from a 1490 as well but I wanted it to be like the one I remember.

Non of the links you have provided for the photos is working. I can not open up the pages, some of the links does not give any response and some tells that the page is not existing.

Very nice tractors you have there!

Never seen a 1212 with an underswept exhaust before, was it used in orchards / low buildings before?

Not sure why it had a turn down manifold. It was saved from a salvage yard after a loader was removed and sold to someone else. Here are a few more recent photos:

These looks impressive. The 12/14 Series still look like a large tractor (in the UK at least). They still look ahead of their time somehow. It's interesting how the US specification tractors seem to have larger wheels compared to the UK versions, they really make the tractor look impressive and capable. Such a line up would be very rare in the UK. Well done.

Sorry but I have to question the logic of putting a loader on a Hydra-Shift tractor. It it was a torque converter then fair enough but it would be a pain if you intend to do any serious loader work.

Hello there people over here say my tractors look brillant but I am do not think they would look at them if they saw these tractors, they are stunning and I do not think there would be a line up of tractors of any make in the world that could match this lineup.Cheers TW AUST

Thanks for the comments guys. All of our restored DB's are purely show machines. They will likely never again do any real work other than road runs and parades.
