David Browns at the Queensland Heritage Rally

There were only 3 David Browns present, being 2 Cropmasters and my 50TD
Have a good look at the mounted implemrmt on the petrol Croppie. It is farm workshop built and can anyone identify what this was designed to do. I will post the answer later this week. It is made from a rear diff assembly and driven from the PTO.

No, it is not a 4WD conversion, it was designed for lifting pea-nuts from the ground. As the rotating tyres travel down the row, they pinch the bushy peanut plant and lift it from the volcanic light soil that is most suited to this crop. Many people are surprised to learn that peanuts do not grow on trees like pecans or walnuts, but in the ground from pegs that grow from the flower. This drawing illustrates the growth of peanuts. Heavy ckay soils like in my local are not suited as the pegs would break off leaving the pod in the ground.

Well I for one would never have figured that out!
