Help with injection pump -cav .david brown 990 selectamatic

Post by bigjay » Sat Jul 30, 2016 6:23 pm

Hi all, i was after some help for my poorly 990. Has been working fine then one day ... Nope not starting. It'll fire on easy start then just carry on cranking so started to investigate! First i thought id ran low with fuel and sucked up some rubbish from the tank so filled it up . I took the filters off and they were completely packed with crap.So put two fresh filters on and still nothing. I have discovered that i am having no fuel pumping out of the injection pump but pump is filling up ok. I have cleaned the gauze thing where the fuel goes into the pump . Crank it over and still no fuel coming out of it ??
I have double checked that the fuel cut off switch is in the right position amd even tried it in the off position just in case haha as i have made that mistake before, im sure we all have !! Haha
I have taken the top part of pump off to check if fuel cut off needle was stuck but was fine and turning in the hole . Also the rotary cam in the pump is also spinning when turning over. ive scratched my head so much now im bold !! Any help would be massively appreciated as need this going for next weekend. thanks everyone.

Hi, this is in the 'photo album' section for some reason.

It has been discussed on here the dangers of running a fuel tank dry, and dirt getting into the fuel injection pump. It may be something else but a trip to the fuel injector specialist may save time in the long run.

If you are certain that there is a strong supply of fuel to the injector pump but nothing coming out at the high pressure outlets then it's time to bite the bullet and take it to a pump specialist. It's not very common but they can and do fail.
