40TD crawler

Post by Ozz-DB » Fri Jun 10, 2011 2:15 pm

New to me!

The David Brown "40TD crawler" is something I've never seen and know nothing about.

My question is how the 40TD was related to any DB wheeled tractor as other DB crawlers were?

What engine did it use?

The serial number list given on this website suggest the 40TD was built in very limited numbers but I've have discovered that this model was exported to Australia.

I believe this crawler was based on the 30D.

Yes, Raymond is correct it has a 950 engine. The 40TD was a 30IDT in a later form, having a 950 engine, same track assemble, the clutch was increased to 12 inchs same as the 50TD mark 2, transmission the same, the seating layout is different with the steering levers placed in the middle, the 40 TD was slightly heavier, approx 250 made between 1960 and 1964, also all 40TDs were painted yellow.RAYMOND do you still have your 50TD MARK 2.Regards TOM WILL AUST.

Very tidy dozer this one. Probably made from 50TD left-over parts as it looks very similar to my 50TD Mk11 but with the 950 engine fitted.

Regards,
John

Yes, John many parts relate to the 50TD Mark 2 The 50td mark 2 has a heavier track and final drive plus the 6 cylinder engine. Both tractors feature the same clutch, transmission and steering. The streering was improved from the older 30 and 50 mark 1 tractors plus they are a little heavier. Regards. Tom Williams.

I think I've seen a youtube clip of this machine. When/where will the 40 TD be on show again? I'd like to see it for real?
