880 selectamatic identification/registration plates

Post by db880wa » Wed Jun 08, 2011 11:57 pm

Hello.
Im just wondering if someone can help, i bought an old 880 selectamatic a few years ago to restore but it didnt come with a log book as it was lost and there were no registration plates on it. How would i go about getting the identity off it and where on it should i look for vin numbers or chassis plates?

Thanks
Wayne

Is there still a plate on your left hand guard?

The VIN plate is normally rivetted to the LHS fender and is clearly visible. I have seen a few in Aus that were mounted on the RHS of the main chassis below the fuel tank and on the rare occasion can be found reclining in the toolbox. Failing that you should be able to find the tractor serial number stamped into the horizontal edge of chassis just by the bottom RHS radiator mounting. If the bonnet is on, it will be obscured by the RHS side panel of the bonnet and you will need remove the bonnet to find it. Also, if there is any mud or grime on this part of the chassis you will probably need to clean it off.

Hope this helps.

Checked the DBTC shop, 'Miscellaneous' section to get an idea of what a VIN plate looks like. There's nothing like trying to find something and not know what to look out for.
