First versus Second series 30 C & 30 D

Post by Ozz-DB » Sat May 15, 2010 7:24 am

I have heard of a DB 30D with an "unfindable" serial number.

My question is there any visually differences between the early and late "30" models?

What mechanically features are different?

The DB serial number lists have a "Series One" and "Series Two" 30c & 3Od listed.

As far as I remember the basic difference is that the 30C (C denoting 'Cropmaster type') still retained the wide mudguards and build characteristics of the earlier Cropmaster such as the rear linkage, drawbar assembly, the brass hexagon type greasers, 3 hinge side panels (30D had 4) and some of the very first ones still retained the bench type seat. I think that the main mechanical difference was that the engine had slightly larger pistons which gave it around 35hp instead of the former 28hp or something like that. The experts on these older models will probably be able to tell you with more accuracy.

Powerrabbit spot on, visually, series 1 had scuttle, series 2 never, both versions have the square cast bulkhead at front, earlier series 2 had slight variants like regulator on side above starter, later under dash,
Mod to lift, for "hold" possition, mod to brake/clutch assembly etc. Engine - Diesel,- not sure, depends on liners, stepped or straight, again depends on "landing zone" on block type, oil feed pump return type, etc
Hope this helps
