I just bought what?

Re: I just bought what?
The pin hole is 1". Any drawbar you can drill yourself will be too soft an bend when in use, better try getting one from a breaker.
Re: I just bought what?
I'm a machinist by trade, I'll drill a hole in anything. I have the proper material to use for it. Thanks for the info I wasn't really sure it would be that large.
Thanks again, I'm off to shop to get after it.

Re: I just bought what?
New drawbar made up now I have a question on this funky switch/sensor looking thing on the gear box cover? What is that for ? All the wires are a mess on this old tractor and I would like it correct at some point!
Only gages it has are fuel, temp, and tach with 3 lamps on top?
I also noticed a sensor or something on the bottom of the rear pto housing? Is this a saftey switch for starting? As well as the thing on the gear cover?

Re: I just bought what?
Sounds like a possible safety switch on the gear box, but you really need to buy or get a copy of a service manual. The other thing that helps to answer your questions are pictures.
these will need to be compressed to be able to be posted but as they say a picture is worth a thousand words.

Re: I just bought what?
I looked at the link Ollek provided to me earlier and found some general wiring schematics that may help me in determining what everything was and should do?
But that thing on the gearbox cover has got me baffled as to why it would be on the range lever and not the speed/reverse side like my 1594 is?
The service manuals I have looked for here in the States do not provide electrical schematics just the mechanical stuff.

Re: I just bought what?
The "thing" on the gear box top must be the starter safety switch. The question you have about the positiion of the switch is trivial. Both locations does the same job, prevent the starter motor from operating if the gear box is not in neutral. And, the 90- and 94-series tractors have two separate range gear levers and no distinct neutral position in the range box. The following link takes you to a page in the DBTC, and there are some wiring diagrams. The diagram for the 1490/1690 is almost the same as the one in the 1594. http://dbtc.co.uk/index.php/wiring-diagrams
Re: I just bought what?
The switch on the bottom of the pto housing is a vacuum switch for the hydraulic pump it is connected to the orange light on the dash, I don't think these switch's are available anymore,
Re: I just bought what?
Skyrydr, at the end of dokument mj820, Repair Manual, Electrical Equipment, is a lot of scematics for your 996 and 885, 990, 995 are almost the same)
Re: I just bought what?
Thanks guys I will check all that out.
Mine has a selector valve on the left side of the axle housing with 3 distinct positions, and it has a lever/handle on the rear of the same side what are these for? I know about the selector valve next to the remote valve behind quadrant control for 3 point.
But that 3 position lever has me scratching my head a bit with out an operator's manual.

Youll find a manual here https://sites.google.com/site/deerebrow ... wn-info-ii
The valve behind your left foot is likely to be the 3 way valve, surprisingly with 4 positions. The lever/handle on the rear side of the axle from the 3 way valve is likely to be the lift latch for locking the 3 point in the raised position. The manual will explain everything, hopefully!

Find "David Brown 990, 995 & 996 Tractors Instruction Book.pdf" from the link philedge provided as soon as possible. There is no point in giving the same informations on this forum, that can be found in a Operators Manual.
Re: I just bought what?
Thank you everyone for your help it has and is making this new tractor a real nice machine!
I took him for a ride today and It is promising for sure! All worked nicely except the lift lock? I will do a bit more reading on this and report on my findings . I am now weathering a nasty storm coming up the coast and will be reading the manuals through .
As I may have stated way earlier that I cut my teeth on a David Brown 950 and loved the tractor like no other! And all my life I dreamed of one day owning a 6 cylinder DB and now I do with my 1594 ! I love that tractor and want another one with 4wd.
Patients is a virtue for sure, but I will find one!
In the mean time I am going right after my 996 to get up to par and performing as it should.

Re: I just bought what?
What is the problem you have with the lift lock?
Re: I just bought what?
Not knowing how it worked mostly, after a good bit of reading through the operator's manual link I was given I have found it is working perfectly.
But I have found a few things that are not. The starter safety switch is stuck closed so it starts in any gear, and the parking brake pawl is either stuck or broken as the lever does not lock. This looks like it could be a project to fix, as I see no way to get to the pawl?
Re: I just bought what?
I have a feeling that the safety switch is faulty, and therefor the leads are connected together by an earlier owner. Removong the hand brake lever and spraying WD-40 at the pawl can sometimes get the pawl moving.
