Have you dropped a part from inside the hold or by-pass valve into the rear axle casing? If this is the case, then it is almost impossible to find the part without stripping down the back end of the tractor. You can try to "fish" for the part with a magnet. Small parts do not make any harm in the transmission and you can get a new part and forget the one you lost. Can you please tell what ref number the lost part has in the following link https://partstore.caseih.com/us/parts-s ... 6ar1289784

thanks for getting back to me. its no 2, the plunger.i have tried picking it up with a magnet but no joy.suspect its gone right down to the axle.
do you think it will just sit there and not get moved on to damage anything?

Number 2 is the by-pass valve plunger. Hold valve (ref 6) and by-pass valve (ref 2) are match to the valve chest body at production at the factory. These two plungers are not available as spares and only the original plunger will be guaranteed to fit in the bore and work as intended. This is why we always warn people not to drop anything inside the rear axle.

The plunger is a vital part of the hydraulic valve assembly and is not interchangeable with valves from another unit.
There are two ways of retrieving the part. 1- Remove the complete valve assembly, 2- remove the right hand reduction unit and retrieve it through the spur pinion shaft hole in the axle. The diff lock pedal must be secured in the engaged position before removing the reduction unit.
I suggest removing the reduction.

Not speaking from experience, but Id be tempted to drop the gearbox oil and have a look with an engine inspection camera to see where the plunger has got to. With the camera in place so you can see what your doing, you may be able to fish it out with a magnet??

I would expect it to be in an oil pocket under the valve assembly in the axle.
