Registering 880 with dvla

Post by Richie » Tue Feb 05, 2019 4:34 pm

Hi, I am having problems with acquiring a reg plate for my 880 , I have given the dvla my chassis number (880a547 995) and the engine number (ad3 17525 55a) and a half guessed registration number from a very diesel soaked tax disc from the 1990s . It appears to read DLJ 808F. It’s the DL at the beginning that’s very hard to read and was wondering if anyone knows the old Dorset, Hampshire, Devon prefixes to help me ? The first letter could well be a B. I’m in Dorset and these old tractors usually stay pretty local I’ve found. Also might there be some factory records available? Hope someone can help. Cheers rich

Unless you know the reg associated with tractor serial number, and DVLA have previously issued a V5, you'll need to find some official documentation that links the original reg to the serial number. Could be an old log book or a local council registration record. Without any documentation linking the reg and serial number, youll need to apply for a new age related plate

. Cheers philedge, I studied the diesel soaked tax disc like columbo last evening and I am 99% confident the reg is NLJ 808F the LJ being the last two letters of a three letter prefix make sense as it’s a Bournemouth code and I’m 30 miles west in Weymouth. It’s from 1990 and we forget how complicated pre computer filing was ! I guess now the computer would recognise the vin or engine or reg number and fill in the missing bits for us .cheers rich . Ps if anyone has the knowledge to match the registration number to the chassis number I would appreciate it.🙂

The dvla system will find the old reg no from the chassis no if it has been previously registered i have just been through all this due to buying a tractor with no V5 or reg no a friend allso checked the details via hpi as he is registerd as a profesional user and it came up with even more infomation than the dvla did and the reg no .i had got infomation via the club to go age related but in the end i didnt need it

Hi Ian , yes I did give dvla the chassis number and engine number and the reg number but was unsure of the first digit as the tax disc was stained with diesel but I must of had mr grumpy . I think I know the first digit now so perhaps I will try again. Cheers rich

If you go to the vehicle tax check website, NLJ808F comes up as a white David Brown showing tax expired in April 1993. Looks like they havd a digital record so you probably just need apply for a V5 for that reg. Simples:)
