Hi
I am probably dreaming, but is there a way to replace the bypass hose on the 990 water pump without removing the pump?

Not familiar with the hose in question but it sounds like a similar idea used on the old Mini. Had to cut the old hose off and then soak the new hose in very hot water to make it flexible. At least that idea worked on the Mini. Otherwise it sounds like the pump off.

It can be done on early engines only if the replacement hose is very thin and supple with extreme difficulty. Removing the pump is the only method otherwise.

db2d is correct in his comments. It is possible to fit the current hoses without removing the water pump as they are very thin & supple. However they are not very good quality & being thin do not last very long. If the two hose tails are in line, & the water pump is removed a short piece of 3/4 inch bore heater hose can be used which should last much longer.
