Cropmaster Battery Boxes.

Post by broadsword » Sat Jun 23, 2018 11:34 am

Just wondered - were the wooden boxes on the Cropmaster Diesel finished with yacht varnish or just done with a wax finish orininally OR has anyone done then with a wax and what do they look like when done. Have had a couple of boxes made up already so just curious???

Thanks for any help.

I think they were varnished but I am not 100 per cent certain. That’s one question I have never been asked before!

I could only imagine that originally it would have been varnished as that was what would have been a simple process on the assembly line. I would think that wax would look a bit flat and not shiney and marine varnish may not have been around to the degree that ordinary varnish would have been. The only other option for that time period is French Polishing and that process was way too involved for an assembly line, but not at Rolls Royce.
