1490. Two versions of hydraulic strainer?

Am I right in thinking early 1490's had a paper inlet strainer and later ones had the washable mesh type?

Also, any tips for getting the high pressure filter housing undone? Ours seems to have seized on and no amount of tugging using a 1" drive socket will shift the thing. I can't see getting much more leverage with the complete housing and block off on the bench either.

Thanks in advance.

All 90- and 94-series tractors had the metal suction strainer and a pressure filter right from the production start. If it is that difficult to undo the filter bowl, then there is a possibility that someone has got the bowl on wrong threads or the phasic back up ring has been in the wrong position when the ball was tighter. Lengthen the tool handle with a pipe to give more leverage.

Aye, I know about leverage, breaker bars and such.

Interestingly the inlet strainer filter that came out has a paper element, not metal gauze.

I think it was the 1210 and the like models had paper and gauze filters. I know there isn't much room but if you can get a bar on each side of the filter and have 2 people pushing on it equally it will certainly help. You will need the powerbar that slides through the head type, sorry don't know the name. Also have a bottle jack under the powerbar to hold the socket up on the filter

Tractors with pressure filter shall have a metal suction strainer. Sounds like someone has fitted a wrong part in the past. Paper filters as used in older front pump models and in rear pump models, have a mesh fitted to the bottom (top) of the filter. These have no pressure filter. And it has happened many times that the metal strainer has been discharged because the person who did the service did not know that the strainer is washable.
