990 selectamatic pointer fork replacement

Post by Dixie » Tue Jan 23, 2018 7:02 pm

Hi , I’m a new member and a long suffering dB fan , I have endured and conquered quite a few problems with the help of you good people on past posts but would like to know about un seizing my spool valve as I tapped it down and can’t get it back up! I’m guessing it’s a cross shaft removal ? Am I right an if so is it ok to strip and clean or is it a specialist job ? Appreciate some advice cheers richie ps I think past owner may have snapped fork as it “swings in the breeze “ probably due to him not coping well with the stuck spool valve ,lol so am I right to assume 2 birds one stone and remove the shaft and valve chest? Thanks again .

Hi was it easy to tap down? If so you can get a spanner onto one of the nuts and try turning the spool. They normally free up quite easily when moved. If it loosens the nuts you will have to dismantle it anyway.

Hi Jazo , no it was quite hard to lever down with pry bar , ive known them to lightly seize on my 995 but a small tap and all was fine again .this seems to be proper tight .if I remove the chest and record the exact turns on adjuster nuts is it ok to remove and clean spool valve with metal polish ? Cheers rich

Hi, no it needs setting to exactly the size etched into the end of the spool. You will need a dial gauge with magnetic base to do this.
