Different 1410 dump valve "handles" ......

Post by albertamike » Thu Jul 17, 2014 2:37 pm

Sorry for not being able to post a picture here. Really, this whole post is just me wondering how part of what we received for a repair part would have worked, so here goes.

We picked up a salvage dump valve plunger control from a tractor wrecker for our 1410. The plunger itself (and the cast iron base which supports it and bolts down to the tractor) is the same, what is different though is the "top part" which the operator uses to activate the dump valve.

What they sent us had a long control rod (with a bend in it) with a finger latch for pulling the plunger up. With this was a tin "cap" that covered the base but it had no ability to hold the plunger in the down position. Our original operator control for the dump valve was a large and heavy cast iron "knob" which had a locking pin in it that allowed the operator to lock the plunger in the "down" position for regular 3-point operation. This is the one I see in our parts manual.

I removed the long rod control they sent (held to the plunger with a split pin) and replaced it with the cast iron control knob that can lock down into place (or unlock and be pulled up to allow the dump valve to work).

What I am wondering is how the control rod they sent us would have worked since it had no means of holding the plunger in the down position. Does anyone here recognize the strange control rod part that I am describing?
