First David Brown Cropmaster

Post by vak1c100 » Mon Feb 27, 2006 10:31 pm

As many members were previous employees of David Brown i was wondering if anyone knows any information on the first cropmaster off the production line in 1946.
From Stuart Gibbards book (The David Brown Tractor Story 1936-1948) apparently the tractor was donated to the 'National Farmers Unions Disaster Fund in 1947 but were was this.

I am asking these questions because i believe that i have found this tractor. The tractor in question has features similar to that of a VAK1a, such as smaller fuel bowl, push on (not screw on) radiator and fuel caps, early (greater degree of curve) hand brake levers and the bracket which holds the hydraulic lever to the mudguard is a complex aluminium casting different to the simple steel bracket fitted to cropmasters. The plate is stamped VAK1C 100 10001, with the tractor being built on the 21st of April 1947. Although sometime in its life it has either been over stamped with a 'one' or been hit with another object, which would make it 10101, being built two months later on the 4th of June 1947.
The only thing doubting this later date of June is the date cast into the engine main frame which states that it was cast on the 1st of April 1947.

Would it be cast and used within the month or left for two months?

Thanks for reading and any help would be great
