Electrical Parts

Post by cobbadog » Thu Jul 05, 2012 2:49 am

I have recently been getting stuck into our David Brown Cropmaster and going by the thread listed above with the gearbox being sorted I also have had the need to get the electrics working properly. I discovered that the generator was not working and no charge was going back into the battery. I removed, cleaned and fitted new brushes and the bush and bearing did not need attention but still no charge. Had to replace the regulator and now we have a good charge, for a generator, going through the system. Next is I want to buy some spare parts for the ignition sysytem, a coil, a set of points and a condensor as well. What and where do I get. Are these parts still available, if so who carries them and what are the part numbers to ask for? Looking forward to your replies and give thanks in advance.
Cheers John n Dee

David Brown Parts will have what you need, though you usually have to phone to order (no online ordering if memory serves). Try an email first - it may make the phone call shorter!

Thank you so much John but I placed this in the wrong part of the site. I am in Australia and postage of these parts are prohibitive, but it sure is a great site to visit. Possible what I need is the brand names and part numbers for the spares I need. It may appear that the early Series 1 Landrovers have similar parts and I know they are available here in Oz. Thank you for your advise.

The coil used was a Lucas 16E/9509 or a CAV.Q.12.L.I.(12 VOLT)
I believe the coil and points etc from a very early Austin Mini would be OK

Thank you so much Gentlemen, this helps a lot. Now I can start annoying the suppliers out here like Repco, Supercheap, Auto1 and Autobarn.
