Cropmaster dynamo repairs

Post by Copperfield » Mon Apr 19, 2021 7:03 pm

Hi to all i am in the process of doing some repair work on the gear driven dynamo on my 1949 cropmaster,i have purchased a replacement thrust bearing from DBTParts and need to get a shaft made for the bearing. One of the bearing outer cage is pressed onto the shaft and the bearing and other outer cage are retained by a circlip,i think i read on the forum that the shaft is 50mm long from the pressed cage, does anyone have pictures/drawings or has anyone made a shaft for the thrust bearing. thank you

From memory the shaft you are menioning is the main shaft of the dynamo and is not replaceable it is a through shaft from one end to the other and the old bearing needs to be pulled off and the new one pressed onto the shaft.

There are two shafts, one is 50 mm long and the other is 1 3/8 inches de depending on the age of the tractor. The one you require Is normally 1 3/8 “ with the gear driven dynamo. I have made quite a number over the years

Should there be any play in the bearing like the old one?

Yes — it is a thrust bearing but the middle section must not contact the inner or outside sections.
