Re: 1490 turbo cleaning

If its been stood for a while and was working fine when parked up, apart from obvious blockages, the most important thing is a good supply of clean oil. If theres an oil return pipe on the turbo, I'd remove that, disable the engine from starting, then crank the engine until you've got a good flow of...

Re: Hydraulics again...

In an earlier post you said that you managed to get the front wheels in the air when lifting with the 3 point. If thats the case I'd be fairly sure you've got adequate pressure and its a case of tracking down where the pressure is leaking off in hold.

Re: Oil for back end and drive reducers

Two tractors trumps one with a loader:) not sure about the no brakes bit though! I dont think the diesel would harm the filter and its never been cautioned about when discussing gearbox flushing. Personally I wouldnt operate the hydraulics with diesel in the gearbox but definitely lower the 3 point ...

Re: 990 Fuel Pump

Its just an observation- no ones complaining. My 880 must be different to the millions of others as it has the glass bowl before the pump orientated so the bowl can be removed without dumping the contents on the floor. Seems a better solution to me, but thats just an observation/opinion, not a compl...

Re: 990 Fuel Pump

I can see now how it would trap dirt and water on top of the pump but seems an odd arrangement to have bowl seemingly inverted as the moment you release the bowl the contents dump all over the pump and leave a film of dirt sat on top of the pump. I suppose its cheaper to manufacture than a unit with...

Re: Oil for back end and drive reducers

For the gearbox/ hydraulic oil there will be pockets of milky oil left behind if you just drop the old stuff and refill. Popular recomrndation is to drain, refill with diesel, go for a gentle low load drive over rough ground to wash the remnants of milky oil out then drop diesel and refill with oil ...

Re: 990 Fuel Pump

I cant quite understand the purpose of the glass bowl when its mounted on top of the lift pump. Any water or debris will just drop back into the pump and pass into the fuel filters?? Shouldnt the bowl be beneath the pump to trap water/debris?

Re: '66 990 Selectamatic starter 26133Q?

Hi. As you say the battery lead goes to the round post with the nut on it. The generator/alternator/live/hot wire goes to the large flat blade that is also attached to the battery lead connection. Unless you have a multimeter to test blades A and B to work out which is the solenoid coil connection, ...

Re: Newbie 1390 oil pressure

If theres no pressure guage and the oil light comes on at low revs first thing is to change the relatively cheap pressure switch. Sounds like this is the first time youve worked the tractor hard so its likely to be hotter and the oil thinner than previous times. I'd look to do an oil and filter chan...

Re: 950 implematic red number

If you've not got any paperwork that details the reg number, its unlikely the original reg is of any use to you as you wont be able to use it! I've got the full reg number on mine but Im having to apply for a new number as dont have any documentation to show the number belongs to that tractor/VIN. T...

Guys, this is a duplicate post to the one titled Fitting the injection pump drive selectamatic 780
Suggest the other post is used as its got more history.

Re: Fitting the injection pump drive on selectamatic 780

Sounds good progress. Make sure the cold start screw on the side of the injector pump is screwed out anticlockwise to the running position. If its screwed in the engine will run rough and smoke!

Re: Fitting the injection pump drive on selectamatic 780

If it fires on easy start then theres a fair chance valve timing and compression are adequate enough for the engine to run. Try rid54s idea in the post above to do a rough check on timing.

Re: Fitting the injection pump drive on selectamatic 780

Does it fire and then stop with easy start? If it does then that would suggest that mechanically its ok and its a fuelling/ injection timing issue.
Why was the engine rebuilt in the first place?

Re: Fitting the injection pump drive on selectamatic 780

Probably telling you stuff you already know but I'd do the following- Fit new fuel filters Using the manual lever on the lift pump, bleed the filters and then bleed the injector pump until theres no air coming out at all Remove the fuel cap, pump the lift pump again and check the return flow has no ...
