There was a lot of black carbon build up on the pistons so i guess the 5g of heating fuel didnt do it any good :roll:

On the plus side the new pistons ,liners and rings etc look in top condition :D

Hi does any one know the torque setting for the 1394 head bolts and bottom end nuts ?
I could do with a diagram of sequence for tightening up the head bolts please

Not sure about the cheap lookalike ? , there are burn marks on the gasket , the coolant is very strong in there ,i would say at least 50/50

OK chaps head off today and she has blown the gasket between no. 2 and the push rod hole and nearly gone between 1 and 2 pistons , pulled the piston on 2 and all fine witht the rings and piston so looks like it`s gasket faliure , so is it replace the gasket and go or could there be a reason why it`s...

Update water and oil clean and no bubbles in the water , air filters new , doesn't excess smoke on Tickover when warm but as soon as you drive and put the engine under load it smokes , more load on the engine more smoke

hmm i will look into that one , i would say smoke as the oil is black , but it does get worse as it warms up !!!!
it will have to wait until the weekend though as it`s 7-7 at the moment so no daylight hours to see owt

Thanks for the ideas I am going with a broken compression ring so I will fill the engine with thick oil and sawdust as Broadsword is a Yorkshire man so must know what he is on about

Hi Powerrabbit the water is clean with just anti freeze and the sump oil is black in colour , no hissing or pressuring of the hoses as i noticed ?????

Would blocked filters or a deisel problem cause breathing in a engine ?

Well i have owned 3 db`s and one jcb this is the only one i haven`t done the head on in the last 2 years yet !!!
Would the gasses be escaping from the piston into the oil port then causing the smoke ?????

If so wouldn`t it run rough with lack of power ?
