Re: McCormick b-23 finger mower cropmaster combination

It all depends on what the B23 is like. I have seen one or two on eBay that looked reasonable but most are rubbish because understandably people of today don't have the experience to look after them and I think most are only used as toppers anyway and that's one of the worst things you can do with ...

Re: McCormick b-23 finger mower cropmaster combination

As Scooby says, these mowers often had chains from the top link to thew lower links when fitting to older tractors. The advice of great care when folding is so important, many many fingers were lost on those things!!! Set you correctly they can cut grass all day, particularly in seeds, but in old m...

Re: McCormick b-23 finger mower cropmaster combination

The IH B-23 was a brilliant mower - in it's day. I have cut hundreds of acres with them. It will fit and run on your Cropmaster O.K. BUT. Be aware that a cutterbar mower needs to be handled and looked after properly but firstly, almost certainly, you will probably need a top link with a rack on it ...

Re: Yellow 900

Any chance you could ask Alan if they used the standard agricultural serial number format for the individual tractors, which would clarify the OPs question?? Alan has forwarded the following comment for me to post : "The 900 s/ n is for an ag tractor which is what I think the 900 mentioned is and a...

Re: Yellow 900

Not sure if the bespoke tractor build that Scooby describes would have entailed changing tractor and engine serial numbers if a single agricultural tractor was pulled off the line and factory painted yellow to convert to a highway spec?? They are not my words. As I said, it is text that Alan Kellet...

Re: Yellow 900

We are indebted to Mr. Alan Kellett for the following nugget of information about this situation. "Yellow" or Highway tractors as they were latterly called were built on main assembly.Post 71 in R block and pre 71 on the old line adjacent to O block. However Meltham management were always more than...

Re: Timing Gears

I'm just replacing a set on a 990 with a ad4/47 engine with power steering pump aswell. Apparently hard to come by the power steering drive gear. But my wrecker supplied all I needed. Anyone know why they fail unexpectedly? You're lucky Jazo. I bought a new 990 in 1967, obviously with a 47 engine a...

you missed out, they were playing " Like a Virgin" by Madonna as the tractor rolled off :D :D :D
I was once told that virgins are as rare as hen's teeth in Meltham. I'll get my coat and shut the dooor on my way out. 8)

Re: 1594 Case IH

Your friend's tractor went down the line on 29/01/1985. The tally card number was 11457, the engine number was 11467063, and the gearbox number was 2242. Lunch in the canteen on that day was a choice of chicken soup or a toasted corned beef sandwich, and the cook was wearing a pink skirt and a whit...

The largest one is Exactor, the smaller one is Dowty.
And the easy way to remember which is which is that Exactor is "enormous" and Dowty is "dinky"
