Re: DB885 Engine Clatter

If the cold start is stuck in the starting position (screwed in), then the misfiring will be worse when the engine revs are increased. Higher revs will not clear the running if the screw is in start (wrong position for running) position. The cold start screw locks the automatic injection advance in...

Re: DB885 Engine Clatter

Sounds like a tractor that have not been correctly serviced for quit a long time. Well...I'm not sure that's the case. As I've said, it's sat for the majority of it's life in a barn w/ little use. Actually, about an average of 20 hours a year! I've put 20 on it myself in 2 months. If I keep the thr...

Have the fuel injectors ever been serviced?
Don't know, I've had it a little over 2 months.

What does that entail?

DB885 Engine Clatter

In an earlier post about starting problems, I also mentioned that my diesel had been revving and "clapping", "clattering" after sitting @ idle. Following is a video of what I've been trying to describe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f20OSHahw6E This is not the worst sounding of these episodes, but...

Re: DB885 Starting Difficulties

A battery charger does not and is not meant to be a booster battery to start from as it only puts out a low amperage not enough to start off. Just for peace-of-mind, I haven't had the battery charger on it for 3 weeks. It's also stood idle for 2-3 days @ a time and started right up. Even on sub-20 ...

Re: DB885 Starting Difficulties

I wonder how this episode is going. Haven't heard back from PoppyShan885 for a while. Well...thanks for asking cobbadog! Since charging the battery fully, I have had no more issue starting the tractor. Very strange to me. I didn't run right out and buy a battery, waiting for my daughter to be hired...

Re: Spin On Oil Filter

Briefly- The canister type was a full flow system with a built in pressure relief mechanism that ensures that the engine is not starved of oil if the element becomes blocked. Most screw on filters have this relief system built in, but not all. The relief system pressure should conform to DB specifi...

If the filtering system is converted to a screw on type filter it is very important that the new filter has a bypass system that conforms to DB specifications.
Please explain for those of us (me!) who are less familiar w/ these type things. Always looking to learn!

Could someone mention some "trade names" so we not-so-well-versed in the matter know what to look for?

Re: motor oil vs 303 Hydraulic Fluid in trans

While doing some research this evening, I came across the following article. It's lengthy, but none-the-less, a good read.

Re: DB885 Starting Difficulties

Thank you skyryder2 for the info. The past couple of times I've run the tractor, I've kept the idle RPM @ 1,000 and I've not had a surge happen. It seems to me that @ the lower RPM (750-800) the tractor "loads-up" w/ unburned fuel. Upon acceleration from the lower RPM's, the engine would "clatter", ...

am I missing something here, I only see temp gauge and fuel gauge in the video, no ammeter.
I too, wondered the same thing, but in watching both videos, the Temp guage acts differently, so I thought maybe it served a dual purpose???
