Re: Spin On Oil Filter

I can tell you why I would take the time to make an adaptor. It was a rainy nasty weekend, I have a heated workshop, machine tools and just wanted to get out of the house. I'm not trying to improve the DB 990, it was just fine leaving the factory, I just needed a project. Before the real machinist b...

Re: 990 PAS leaking and worn

My 990 PAS cylinder is also scragged. I've tried having it resealed by a hydraulic repair shop twice with poor results. The previous owner welded the forward end of the cylinder closed for some reason and ruined the whole thing. I looked at Agriline and David brown parts but didn't see any PAS cylin...

Re: motor oil vs 303 Hydraulic Fluid in trans

I ended up using Traveller Premium Trans/hydraulic fluid from Tractor Supply. It doesn't say anything about UTTO/ SUTTO / IUD or whatever else but It does say that it's a 10w30 blend suitable for transmissions and hydraulic systems that share a sump/supply. The tractor is still sitting in my shop so...

Re: motor oil vs 303 Hydraulic Fluid in trans

I guess you're right Ollek. The more precise we are with our terminology the better our communications will be.
Thanks for all the help.

Re: motor oil vs 303 Hydraulic Fluid in trans

Thanks Ollek, I was hoping you would jump in. I've noticed the hot gearbox as GeoffDEAL referenced so I was concerned that the 303 Hyd oil wasn't enough. Since I'm already changing the oil today I was wanting to get the best oil for the application. I was afraid the 80/90 wt gear oil may not work we...

Re: motor oil vs 303 Hydraulic Fluid in trans

Thanks guys you both make really good points. Great article on 303 fluids! I drained the 990 last evening to replace the filter and fluid with the intent to use 30 wt motor oil. I think instead I will use 90 wt gear oil and see how it performs. The transmission case got very hot using the 303 oil an...

motor oil vs 303 Hydraulic Fluid in trans

I've searched and not found an answer about using 303 Universal hydraulic fluid in the DB tractor transmissions. In the US we commonly use some version of 303 hyd fluid. I found in my 990 that the clutch was slow to disengage when I used it. After re-reading my manuals I realized that they were call...

Re: 990 selectamatic hydraulic oil filter

Thanks for clearing that up for me. These tractors belonged to an old rice farmer that was real casual about maintenance! I replaced the hydraulic pump last year and installed new o rings at that time. Given the drastic performance increase I noted after removing the old filter I believe that is whe...

Re: 990 selectamatic hydraulic oil filter

Thanks for the input. The reason I believe that the plate that I replaced part number K920521with causes flow restrictions is because I have a 1210 and a 990 that I did this to and both have terribly slow hydraulics. My theory is the 'valve" is a check valve allowing unrestricted flow when high dema...

Re: 990 selectamatic hydraulic oil filter

I'm working through filter issues as well. I have an early DB 990, the original screen filter was destroyed by water and neglect. I ordered one of the later style round paper filters (920522) and found a later style sump cover. However, I could not find the "valve and gauze", part # 920521 that fits...
