Re: slasher mower

I've not seen mowers rated by HP. I'm turning a 6 foot mower here with my 990 and it does fine. In deep grass ( 3 foot or more tall) I have to use low gears. I wouldn't recommend more than 6 foot.

Re: 900 front axle surprise

Really nice machine work! No one would believe you if you told them how much time is spent building fixtures to hold the work piece! I always enjoy seeing others machine shops. Very nice

Power Assist Steering turns right not left

I found a PAS cylinder in a local salvage yard and installed it today on my DB990. Other than the water that must have been present and took me all afternoon to clear out, the only problem is it steers to the right but not to the left. I've looked around and haven't been able to find an exploded vie...

Re: 1394 3 point hitch, no height control

In several places I've seen the same technic for diagnosing a leaking hydraulic system. If your tractor has a 3-way valve, lift the hitch with a load attached and shut off the engine. Then move the 3-way valve operating lever to position 1 or 2. The lift will drop if the lift cylinder is leaking. Ho...

Re: By-pass Valve 990

Ollek,
Mine is an early version with the straight grooves in the valve not inclined. Thanks for clearing this up for me.

By-pass Valve 990

In the process of cleaning the Hold Valve and By-pass valves on my DB990 I found that the steel ball in the By-pass valve was badly deformed. I also found the steel ball "retainer", # 11 in the parts manual is missing. https://partstore.caseih.com/us/parts-search.html#epc::mr53666ar1289784bi3447255-...

Re: Spin On Oil Filter

Thanks Gard, After a good deal of research and trial and error what I found is; it is very possible to make such an adaptor, however little or no benefit will be realized from it. The filter I chose was a Fram PH3786 oil filter due to the large thread, 1 1/2" by 16, this filter was also necessary fo...

Re: Spin On Oil Filter

This filter does not have the built in bypass that db2d points out so I'll have to do some research to find a filter that complies. I went with this filter because the large base allowed for more and larger passages to be included insuring that I did not restrict oil flow. This filter uses a 1 1/2" ...

Re: Spin On Oil Filter

I can tell you why I would take the time to make an adaptor. It was a rainy nasty weekend, I have a heated workshop, machine tools and just wanted to get out of the house. I'm not trying to improve the DB 990, it was just fine leaving the factory, I just needed a project. Before the real machinist b...

Re: 990 PAS leaking and worn

My 990 PAS cylinder is also scragged. I've tried having it resealed by a hydraulic repair shop twice with poor results. The previous owner welded the forward end of the cylinder closed for some reason and ruined the whole thing. I looked at Agriline and David brown parts but didn't see any PAS cylin...

Re: motor oil vs 303 Hydraulic Fluid in trans

I ended up using Traveller Premium Trans/hydraulic fluid from Tractor Supply. It doesn't say anything about UTTO/ SUTTO / IUD or whatever else but It does say that it's a 10w30 blend suitable for transmissions and hydraulic systems that share a sump/supply. The tractor is still sitting in my shop so...

I guess you're right Ollek. The more precise we are with our terminology the better our communications will be.
Thanks for all the help.

Re: motor oil vs 303 Hydraulic Fluid in trans

Thanks Ollek, I was hoping you would jump in. I've noticed the hot gearbox as GeoffDEAL referenced so I was concerned that the 303 Hyd oil wasn't enough. Since I'm already changing the oil today I was wanting to get the best oil for the application. I was afraid the 80/90 wt gear oil may not work we...
