Re: DB885 Engine Clatter

Hi you are lucky to have one with such low hours, it sounds and looks --lots of smoke-- to be over fueling and it clears when revs come up could be the cold start stuck on as you are checking out or something sticking in the injection pump, needs sorting as that rattle is hard on the motors rings ec...

Re: 1594 Hydra starting problems - smoke but no fire.

Hi the electric pump is mounted between the tank and lift pump, leave the lift pump where it is , a plug or switch or wire it into key system is fine, will check on make of mine it is a solid state type of pump and not expensive about $40 i think around 5-6 psi but up to 10psi is all thats necessary.

Re: 1594 Hydra starting problems - smoke but no fire.

Hi if it didnt want to start in the heat of summer its just not getting fuel, my fuel pump was New still was not getting fuel, an electric pump solved the problem. does not need a very high pressure one just something that keeps up the fuel supply at a moderate pressure. Has worked for me and others.

Re: 1594 Hydra starting problems - smoke but no fire.

Hi polbaeman thats what i thought when having fuel problems with my pump BUT the hand priming stroke is different to what the motor stroke is due to wear on push rod and cam and my pump was hardly operating at all.

Re: Spin On Oil Filter

Regarding screw on filters if they have a by pass valve it will be a valve at the end of the center hole -the bottom end - when viewing the center hole, it can usually be pushed with a suitable CLEAN object to confirm it moves. The flap under holes on face of filters is a non return valve that stops...

Re: Spin On Oil Filter

What an excellent piece of machining every DB owner with the old filters will want one, is it possible to use the same thread and therefore the same filters as later DBs or does it need larger diameter thread as it appears to be in the pictures. I use a longer Z9 type filter that is almost twice as ...

Re: 1594 Hydra starting problems - smoke but no fire.

Hi polbaeman i was checking comments, at 0 or -3 degrees you would have to be very lucky to get a start without engine heating or the black art of using just enought starting fluid to start it. At those temperatures and we do get them in NZ at times my 1690 which is now a good starter would not star...

Re: 1594 Hydra starting problems - smoke but no fire.

Consider my hand smacked it is up to each person how and what they do to start tractors, however an electric fuel pump between tank and lift pump has worked for myself and others, by passes worn pump--worn pump pushrod--worn cam shaft and gives a constant fuel supply, tractor needs throttle to start...

Re: motor oil vs 303 Hydraulic Fluid in trans

In the USA Case trans oil would be good, watch the U Tube on Case trans oil with Messicks is interesting, Do Not use any MP type oil that is for engine and transmission unless you do very light work , a specific trans oil will give far more wear protection. For the very best use AMSOIL synthetic tran...

Re: 1594 Hydra starting problems - smoke but no fire.

Hi i see a chap on line made up a tester using an old injection pump plumbed into a pressure log with a pressure gauge to suit and he drove the pump with an electric drill with a socket onto the end nut, it did the atomising pressure and the hold pressure for 10 seconds and a view of the spray ect, ...

Re: 1594 Hydra starting problems - smoke but no fire.

Hi polbaeman as i understand it lapping is part of the reconditioning of the valving in the injectors by specialists along with pressure testing and new nozzels if needed. The fact that the tractor runs good once started indicates there is not much of a problem , the hours would be the 2645 i think ...
