Re: If it's not one thing it's another. 885 starter drive #

Rid54, please read the following: The starter motor itself has a device, called a Bendix gear, which engages its pinion with the gear ring on the flywheel only while the starter is turning the engine. It disengages as soon as the engine picks up speed, and there are two ways by which it does so - th...

Re: If it's not one thing it's another. 885 starter drive #

A Bendix drive can be of different types. One of the types is the pre-engaged Bendix drive. The reason for all this is tat rid54 wrote that he thought that the Bendix drive vent out of fashion a long time ago and this is not the case.

Re: If it's not one thing it's another. 885 starter drive #

The link you have sent is explaining in principle the same as shown in the link I sent earlier. You stated "bendix type clutches/drives went out of fashion a long time ago". NO it did not. A Bendix drive is an old system, but it is still used in most vehicles used on the road, in the field, in the f...

Re: If it's not one thing it's another. 885 starter drive #

Rid54, read the following. The gear and the clutch that the solenoid is throwing into contact with the ring gear on the fly wheel, is called Bendix and this can also be called starter drive and this system is still widely used. The following link shows the Bendix drive and tells you how it works. ht...

Re: If it's not one thing it's another. 885 starter drive #

What are you referring to when you say "starter drive"? Do you mean Bendix or solenoid or something else? What are the symptoms when the tractor will not start? Have you checked the battery condition and have you cleaned all cable connections between the battery and the starter motor? Have you check...

Re: 885 Loader Operation with Going-Away Valve

Very important! Do not put plain hydraulic oil in the transmission/hydraulics. You must use a oil with transmission classification GL4. A suitable oil is a STOU or UTTO oil with a SAE figure of 10W-30 or 15W-30 (40).

Re: 885 Loader Operation with Going-Away Valve

I am sure there is noting called "going away valve" as this sound a little bit odd, what is "going away" and where is it going to. If it is correct what you have been told, then I must say that someone has invented something impossible. I think there is a system called "Power beyond" and this is a p...

Re: 990 hydraulic issue

I have said before and I will say it again, there is no relief valve in the double acting valve. The front end in the double acting valve is a system that returns the valve spool to mid (hold) position when the pressure in the working line reaches a pre set figure, normally around 130 bar. The syste...

Re: 1490 hydraulic return/dump - case drain for hydraulic motor

The pressure in these holes is as near to zero you can get in a gallery of 6 to 8 mm open pipes. A meter of half a inch hose with connectors creates at least as much back pressure. The gear box lubrication is not pressure fed, but a pipe gallery splashes oil onto the components needing it.

Re: 990 hydraulic issue

Never connect the return directly to the gearbox on a David Brown tractor. The return has to be connected to one of the plugs provided, or the gear box lubrication will be effected. In stationary use the gear box will be damaged do to starvation of lubrication oil if the return is directly into the ...

The cylinder in the picture is for a steering called Hydrostatic, Power Assisted steering is completely different except for the pump and oil reservoir. The following is a link to the parts catalogue showing the main set up for the Hydrostatic steering https://partstore.caseih.com/us/parts-search.ht...

Re: 885 Dead Hydraulics

The spool valve is most likely stuck in the up position if it does not move and there is a oil stream from the right hand side of the valve chest. Try to pry the spool valve up and push it down manually a few times if it does not move when you move the main control lever. There are some pictures in ...

When the thermostat opens, the needle will be juts between the yellow and the green field (around 72 to 78 degrees centigrade). When the coolant mixture (50/50%) will boil, the needle will show just between the green and the red field (around 102 to 107 centigrade. All temperatures given for a tract...
