Re: 1965 David Brown 880UE Implematic, how to prime transmission hydraulic pump?

The PTO gears are straight on all versions, it is the gears that drive the pump that can be different. I think the pump gear should be 3 7/8” diameter but I am not exactly certain without measuring one. I have just measured a helical gear and it is 3 15/16” dia. I would expect a straight toothed gea...

Check the drive gears in the PTO unit, it could be a miss match if either the pump or the PTO unit has been changed. Earlier tractors had straight gears and later versions had helical.

Re: 1490 air locking

It could be the fuel is draining back to the tank if one of the valves in the lift pump is leaking.
There is a small seal in the cold start device that can easily be renewed. This seal is only available from davidbrownparts.com unless someone has old stock. It is not included in any other seal kits.

Re: Cropmaster Clutch

A pressure assembly from a non-Livedrive 900 or Implematic single drive plate clutch would be suitable for a 30D.
The 25 series tractors had originally a lighter pressure assembly.

Re: Cropmaster Clutch

The heavier duty clutch assembly has all the springs coloured green in place of the red.
Changing the complete assembly is probably the better option. Finding the correct springs to upgrade a cover assembly would be difficult in this country but obtaining a complete replacement would not be a problem.

Re: 885 retard screw

I suggest checking the fuel return pipeline from the injection pump to the fuel tank for any kind of blockage or restriction.

Re: 885 retard screw

Can you please clarify the situation. Does the engine stop when the cold start is screwed out ? Does the engine smoke when trying to start without engaging the cold start ? How did the problem start, has any work been carried out involving any part of the fuel system?

Re: 1965 David Brown 880UE Implematic, how to prime transmission hydraulic pump?

I do not see the cross shaft, has this been removed? The cross shaft and the control linkages should be in place and all settings correctly adjusted to enable a meaningful pressure test to be taken. The position and condition of the sensing cable is another possibility for pressure failure. The cable...

Re: 780 Reduction unit seals.

The face of the seal in the first picture should be facing the wheel. Pack the centre of the seal with grease before assembling the reduction unit. The ring nut has to be tightened very securely with a ‘C’ spanner.

Ritchie, this post is being duplicated, could you please amend to avoid confusion. I suggested using the throttle stop etc on the earlier post.

Re: Crank scroll seal

Early DB engines had the scrolling machined into the crank and a rope type packing cannot be used. Without knowing the engine number of your tractor I presume the rear aluminium oil retainer has the internal scrolling. This oil retainer was superseded to incorporate the rope type packing. The retain...

Re: Crank scroll seal

There are very few parts that are interchangeable between the 880 and the 885 gearboxes. The 885 has a synchromesh gearbox.
