Re: 1965 David Brown 880UE Implematic, how to prime transmission hydraulic pump?

Briefly- with the cable that fits onto the top link disconnected the TCU does not come into play. With the cable connected there is no hold position. If the TCU pressure is adjustable with the cable disconnected there is something wrong either with the cable or the linkages in the control box. The l...

Re: 990 Cylinder Head

When replacing cylinder heads on early 990 and 1200 tractors with the later 962268 assembly new pistons are required because the larger valves may foul the original pistons.

Re: 1965 David Brown 880UE Implematic, adding thermostart

I suggest rectifying the fault with the cold start. Remove the complete unit by undoing the large nut. Secure the unit in a vice with the T piece uppermost and then undo the smaller nut. This part can then be worked on to free it by placing the T securely in a vice. Take care not to loose any parts ...

Re: 1965 David Brown 880UE Implematic, how to prime transmission hydraulic pump?

I do not think that the problem is the non-return valve If the the gear pack has been exchanged in the pump it is quite common that no oil pressure is the result. There can be substantial wear in a pump and it will still work but if new parts are fitted little or no pressure can be the result. Did y...

Re: 1965 David Brown 880UE Implematic, how to prime transmission hydraulic pump?

Number 4 is a non-return valve. The pressure relief valve is situated under the large plug on the top of the valve chest ( right hand side viewed from the rear of the tractor). When the pressure relief valve relieves, oil is emitted from the hole in the centre of the plug. This can be observed throu...

Re: Purchased a Cropmaster - Have a few questions

You will have to obtain a flywheel complete with gear. The flywheel you have is not machined to accept a ring gear, new gears are not available.
A flywheel from any pre 1960 petrol/TVO DB single clutch tractor would be suitable.

Re: 1965 David Brown 880UE Implematic, how to prime transmission hydraulic pump?

The pump has been assembled wrongly. Strip it down and rebuild it. I wonder what the problem was initially that instigated dismantling the pump ?

Re: 1965 David Brown 880UE Implematic, how to prime transmission hydraulic pump?

The PTO gears are straight on all versions, it is the gears that drive the pump that can be different. I think the pump gear should be 3 7/8” diameter but I am not exactly certain without measuring one. I have just measured a helical gear and it is 3 15/16” dia. I would expect a straight toothed gea...
