RE: Identification of old Dozer

Hello Iwwis, can you send me a pm or email as I may be able to assist a little. I rebuilt a 50TD crawler which also had a broken transmission housing like yours. I welded it up then reinforced both the housing and frame. I also may be able to direct you to someone in New Zealand who may still have a...

Good find Pete. I have one also about the same age and condition, complete with all the oil leaks. Like many of the Croppies here in Queensland, it is fitted with 16.9 tyres and also require a replacement steering wheel.

50TD out of the shed for a run

Gave my David Brown 50TD a run a few days ago. Hooked up my trailer tank and took it to the windmill tank for water for the garden. Total weight full is about 2½ tons which loaded it up a bit on the hill. Trailer axle is from a Dennis truck and previously, the trailer was used as a spray rig behind...

Some interesting comments here. As a comparison, an equivalent sized and aged tractor here such as a MF or Ford in good working condition would bring approx Au$9k to $10K so I would expect that this 1212 when tidied up would end up costing about the same. It has been advertised for a while and I thi...

DB 1212 - good value?

This 1212 is currently advertised in a trader website here and asking price is $5500 or about £3100 and located in the sugar cane growing area of Central Queensland. Apparently in reasonable mechanical condition but panel work rusty. A bit closer to home, I might have been interested. (About 6 hrs ...

Very nice standard of finish there Daniel. Can you tell me what the rear tyre size is? Tyres look similar to my Cropmaster VAC1 s/n P38322 and it has 16.9 x 28 tyres fitted to it. Rims look original and I think that some Cropmasters exported to Australia could have been fitted with the larger sized ...

Hi Alan, I'm afraid I cannot assist you on the 30T & TD crawlers as I have had no experience with these. I have a 50TD which came out as diesel only and the engine was designed for the crawler application. Later, it was also used in the 50D wheel tractor. Hopefully it all works out for you. Do you h...

RE: Re: RE: Minor gaskets seem impossible to find - make my

When a copper type head gasket has to be re-used, a little trick used down our way was to coat the gasket with silver aluminium paint before bolting down the head. I have also used a thin coat of aviation gasket cement on both head gaskets and paper gaskets to improve sealing. When installing cork g...

RE: Minor gaskets seem impossible to find - make my own?

Loctite 515 is a good product to use on good fitting joints, how-ever it is not a gap filler. The specialised silicons are better in this application, how-ever, care needs to be taken not to use excess volumes as is squeezes out from the joint and can easily clog oil pump pick-up screens, hydraulic ...

Cropmasters

G'day Jason, I'm up the hill near Toowoomba and I have recently picked up a Cropmaster too. 1951 Vintage and also missing the headlights and side panels. Mine has the scuttle though. The main work to do on mine is repairing a multitude of oil leaks which takes time but little cost. Also, the steerin...

Would these qualify as David Browns?

Here is a Case 2470 which is up for auction in a couple of weeks in our local area Note that it has a Case David Brown label attached to the front cowl. There was a 1370 at a recent sale here that also had the same label attached. This one was in fairly rough condition requiring a full set of tyres,...

RE: Scuttles in Australia an option?

My Cropmaster (1951 vintage) had the scuttle fitted when I picked it up recently but I can see why many would have been removed. They make it difficult mounting or dismounting especially if wearing size 10 or larger boots! Mines off at present as I am about to start giving it a bit of a going over f...

The first thing to check would be to connect up a seperate oil pressure test gauge to check the pressure. If this reads OK, the original gauge needs to be replaced. If the pressure still fluctuating, I would check first the oil level then as mentioned below, could be sucking air from the suction sid...

DB plough instruction book

When I recently picked up my Cropmaster, I was given with it a DB plough instruction book. I have converted it to an electronic copy and if anyone would like a copy of it, send me a PM with your email address and I will send you a copy. It is in PDF format with a file size of 1.4Mb.

Regards,
John
