It was manufactured with the timing marks incorrect. Because it performed well when it started I could not accept that there was a timing fault. In the end I did study the timing diagram as posted by 780 and was left with no option but to go in there. That timing cover had never been removed. The ti...

UP DATE The timing marks were INCORRECT, from manufacture. The FIP timing mark was a TDC mark. It was injecting on TDC. Or 21 degrees retarded. So ignoring the existing TDC timing marks, calculated the commencement of injection or spill timing, advanced the FIP by 4 teeth on the gear, touched the st...

I agree Ollek and it has had all this treatment with no better result. So, the radiator and timing cover has now been removed and its like the diagram. No 1 injector removed and a mandrel down the hole to the piston crown shows that the timing marks are TDC. Removed No 1 FIP delivery valve and check...

This thread has gone off on a tangent ! There is nothing removed from the tractor except the Bosch in FIP. The tractor runs fine, been on the DB Museum load car and Ripon Farm Services PTO driven dynometer. Achieved its HP rating, the exhaust smoke was clean, just dribbled some coolant out of the ra...

1210 FIP timing marks

Where are the timing marks on the 1210 ? Cannot see any timing dowels into the flywheel like on my 3 pots.
Fitted with cab and loader. I am considering dropping a valve onto a piston and using a dti gauge as I think this thing could be retarded .... like its owner!

RE: 880 Axle shaft seal

Seal lip facing the oil, as the advise from your man. I've fitted Case seals from Barcley Williams because my local seal supplier could not match the original samples. 'Odd-balls' to quote.

Just happen to have a Barcley Williams pen in my hand , telephone number 01386 833694. Plenty others like Steven Marsden or David Brown World Wide Parts... telephone numbers not to hand.

RE: Timing peg for 885

Just use a drill , cannot remember exactly which size but about a quarter or maybe 5/sixteenth. Make sure that you use the timing proceedure as stated in the manual, dont guess it or theres a good chance of the pistons touching the valves resulting in bent push rods! I bought a bad runner a few year...

Looks like a Carraro with the large hub containing an epicyclic reduction unit. Should the hub bearings be shimmed between the collars ?

RE: 1210 ? engine test ?

Change the transmission oil and filter and replace the rubber boots on the gear sticks to keep water out of the gearbox. Every criticism I hear about DB tractors is about the hydraulics, and I base that criticism on lack of maintenance. DBs do go the extra mile but once the hydraulics are contaminat...

RE: Thread Size

Purchased the thread tap from the above Tap & Die Co. Nice chap to deal with and will be my next port of call when in need of thread repair tools. No other local engineer supply firms could do that thread, he can even supply with both left and right hand threads. The track rod would have been scrap ...
