Re: Correct Workshop Manuals 990 Selectamatic

For your serial number if you look further down the serial number list on the club web site, the 990 has a second entry which includes your serial number. Doesnt date your tractor but it is in the list

Saw the housing on eBay. They wanted over £100 for delivery.
I think shipping on a pallet is around £70-80 plus time to pack plus VAT makes £100 is quite reasonable

Re: 950 Wiring

If you make up a loom, add in some additional fuses to protect the wiring from meltdown. Older tractor designers seem to have been reluctant to spend a few shillings on fuses meaning chaffed wiring can lead to meltdown!!

Re: 780 Polarity - Always Negative Earth?

Theres a 780 manual at the link below that has a wiring diagram showing negative earth. I cant think of any reason why someone would convert from the standard negative earth to positive so I guess the battery has been fitted the wrong way round! Good luck sorting out the charging sites.google.com/si...

Re: 4600 selectomatic

If its the same set up as the diesel 880, that set screw must go back in the hole for 2 reasons. The set screw holds the rocker shaft in place and stops it rotating. Below the hole is the rocker oil feed and if the set screw is missing the oil just flows out of the hole without being forced down the...

Re: 995 Hydraulic issues

Personally, I dont think youve stolen someone elses topic as the replies have already moved away from aerated oil and your post is pretty much in line with previous posts on oil type, oil cost, filtration etc.

Re: 880 selectamatic hydraulic by pass filter

The blanking plate in the picture looks the same as the one fitted to my tractor so maybe it is a DB plate I have and not homemade. Why the bypass filter has been removed is still a mystery but may have been damaged as suggested. The other thing that crossed my mind was maybe it got removed by someo...

Re: 880 selectamatic hydraulic by pass filter

Thats great, thanks. So the bypass filter is a low pressure return oil filter?
Beyond me why someone would remove it and blank it off. Were there ever any issues with the bypass filter that might drive someone to remove it??

880 selectamatic hydraulic by pass filter

My early 880 doesnt have a by pass filter fitted and has a well made blanking plate where the filter should go but its not the factory supplied oil return plate with threaded tappings. Ive looked at original parts manuals which suggest that the bypass filter was fitted to all tractors up until the f...

Re: 995 Hydraulic issues

For your 880A make sure you read the 885/995 V section that Ollek linked to as the 880 manual only cover early 880s without the full flow paper filter!

Re: AD3/55 880 Selectamatic new rings?

Fitted new rings with chamfered top ring from David Brown Parts as suggested and the 880 is up and running with virtually no visible smoke once its warmed up- a big improvement. Its had new inlet valve seals and refurbed injectors so they could have helped, but its starting and running way better wh...

Re: 4600 selectomatic

If you go to the web page below theres a 4600 parts book that details the parts bespoke to the 4600 and those common with the 880. Should shed some light on which 880 parts you can use
