Re: Correct Workshop Manuals 990 Selectamatic

phledge, ollek, cobbadog & Scooby I can confirm that our tractor is Power Red chassis/Orchid White bonnet by the way, so it looks like the tractor was built between December 1973 to January 1975, but likely the former...without any idea of how many tractors rolled off the lines each day! Thank you ...

The Chocolate Brown frame colour was change to Power Red at serial number 859111 (built in january 1974). A tractor with serial number 863995 was built in january 1975.
According to Meltham data the Power Red colour scheme started at 858838 in December 1973.

Re: david brown 3 share plow

Ok, I understand better! It is therefore necessary to complete the reversal by pushing the lever in the other direction. (rearward) Yes, to a degree. The trick is to pull the lever as hard as you can so that when it has gained momentum you don't have to push it very hard back to the rest position. ...

Re: david brown 3 share plow

The DB manually reversible ploughs do not "fly over" when you have pulled the handle. There is no trip mechanism. You have to pull it half way and then usually push the handle a bit to finish the turnover. It is possible to make this a little easier if you turn the steering rapidly half way through...

Re: Tyre Swap

In addition to the above I would add the following : You can actually use a Gemmy bar and sledge hammer to break the bead on tyres, after all, that's what a bead breaker is/does. But it is very important to know what you're doing because you can damage the tyre if you hold the bar incorrectly. Then...

Re: Help Wanted for a new FAQ - Wiring Diagrams

Hi, why can I not see the wiring diagram? It is saying "image currently unavailable" Looking for the 25d diagram Y ou are owed an answer to your question and the reason that the images can't be seen is because the original poster is no longer a member of this Forum. That is why they are labelled as...

Re: 990 Cylinder Head

Your tractor went down the track around May-June 1968. If it still has it's original engine it is a 4/47 engine.

Re: Help if possible please.

Thank you for that. It all makes sense. DB loaders were always known to be well built, that's why I once put one on a 990. There were plenty of alternatives but, and I presume that the loaders came out of Leigh as well as ploughs, diggers, etc., anything that came out of there was well made. They d...

Re: Help if possible please.

Yes, I concur with a lot of what you say but in their defence I always found DB would bend over backwards to help me out and most of any faults were dealt with under warranty, even if 2-3 years old. It may have been because, as a contractor I was getting DBs around a bit, plus the fact that we had ...

Re: Help if possible please.

This 990 is an absolute pig to get in and out of. It's a 3-sticker which doesn't help and my prefernce has always been for the cab hinges to be on the front pillar whereas the ones on this tractor are hinged over the mudguard. The early cabbed 1212s weren't great for access but they hung from the f...

Re: Help if possible please.

That was very kind of you to post those photos. Thank you. But I am certain that the loader fitted to the 990 I am talking about was originally for an 885. According to my spares books the frame for the loader of an 800 series tractor was quite a bit different from all the others. It was shorter (o...

Re: 990 selectamatic colours

Slightly confusing about the first Selectamatic tractors having brown frame. white tin work and white wheels. The very first Selectamatic tractor to go on sale was the 770 and the first 1831 of these tractors were sprayed in the same livery as the Implematic tractor range that preceeded them. To ad...

Re: Help if possible please.

you are quite right that owner drivers do not have to worry. I have this nagging memory of seeing a tractor cab with just that logo, and I am certain it was not a DB. Some enterprising person may well have adapted one from a scrapped tractor. I am regularly horrified by the blasé way some people tr...

Re: Help if possible please.

Re: Klippan (possibly off-topic): https://www.maskinisten.net/viewtopic.php?t=8399 They made cabs, possibly even for David Brown. Pics a bit down the page, otherwise swedish text. I certainly think it was someone like that who made this cab. But the mudguards are also very beefy and so I think that...
