Re: Sparks

Very generally speaking here, no specific knowledge of your specific tractor... Diesel engines need good compression to create the heat needed to ignite the fuel, when starting them from cold. They also need proper fuel delivery. Bad starters need compression check and fuel delivery check. The latt...

Re: New radiator

That price is quite reasonable for a re-core - certainly a lot cheaper than I've ever had one done in my area. I've no experience of the cheap ones that are available for David Browns but unless the cost of a re-core was very high I would choose that option over getting a radiator of unknown qualit...

New radiator

Hello all. My radiator belonging to my 996 has a bad core and is needing replaced. I have the radiator at a radiator specialists and they are quoting £190 for a new core. I was tempted to buy a new one but was told that refurbishing the old rad would be better as the 'bowls' (don't know what they ar...

Re: Referb injectors

The old injectors had carbon build on the tip but I don't no how long they were in there?? One injector was fairly hard to take out! The other two slid out handy enough.

I just want to tell you all that I was going to compression test on the 996 but the compression test kit that I had didn't have the correct adapter for the injector holes.. I'll keep you updated ...

I take them all out then test each one. Do a dry test then squirt a little oil into the bore and re-test. You will find it better to rig a pipe up for the returns line, saves getting covered in diesel!
What do you mean by right a pipe up for the return lines?? Thanks.

Re: Engine rebuild

Your breathing from the crankcase does not sound to be excessive so isn't a reason to rebuild. Tell me more about the starting problems. If the compression is suspected to be low I suggest doing a compression test before pulling anything apart - you don't want to strip the whole engine to find that...
