RE: Re loader
My main concern with a 90/94 loader on a 12 would be that the loader frame has to be further forward to clear the long cab. This wouldn't be a big issue on the Q-cabbed 12,as the loader would need to be further forward on those too! However, it does put extra load on the front axle. As said, the loa...

RE: Cab roof.
After a look back to the posts I did when doing my cab roof, Neville Porter was the man who supplied it: http://www.portertrailers-tractors.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=46&Itemid=36 He used to come on this site quite often, but a DB site started in Ireland and I think he goes t...

RE: Cab roof
I seem to remember that the roof was ABS, but susupect that, if it's like my 995's roof, it will be too far gone to patch with ABS solvent. I did manage a temporary repair with ally sheets pop-riveted "inside" the black bit, but eventually bought a new outer bit (in fibre-glass) from an Irish forum ...

RE: David Brown 780 - Altenator
780s weren't normally fitted with an alternator but you can convert to one if you use a mounting from an 885. The later ones had alternators but some earlier ones had dynamos so make sure you get a bracket from an alternator-equipped one! You will need to alter the wiring - there is an FAQ (on main ...

RE: David Brown 885
Look at the photos in the "DB Tractor Range" page in the main menu to see the difference. The 880 has a straight line along the bottom of the bonnet sides, the 885 has a raised section between radiator and fuel tank. Also, the 880 has a 2" diameter or so hole through the clutch cover that should hav...

It's a shame when two respected forum members disagree in public on something that is more than likely to be somewhere between the two opinions. When I worked for the DB agency, the fitters rebuilt clutches, fitting new separator plates, pressure plates, springs etc to most of the double-clutch trac...

RE: front wheels
Find someone with an MF135 and ask to try their 16" front wheel on your tractor. If it fits, order a front wheel for an MF148, which came with 19" front wheels as standard. I seem to think that the 16 and 19 inch wheels will fit pretty well anything built in the UK - Fords, MF, IH etc all bought fro...

Don't use mineral oil?? Are you suggesting that synthetic is better for older engines????
Very worrying.

Just one point: the valve on the wing is a diverter valve, not a 2-way valve as such: it diverts the flow to either outlet and, when in the "neutral" position, stops flow altogether. I would suggest that you have a "catch" on the lift lever (on RH side of the seat) and that the hydraulics are contin...

RE: 990 Implematic pos or neg earth?
I have been asked by someone who knows if I would explain the correct way to polarise a dynamo The best procedure for polarising a dynamo is to connect a lead from the live battery terminal on the starter motor and "flash" the other end of the lead to the small (F) terminal on the dynamo. It is said...

Surely the main point of synthetic oils is to reduce the frequency of oil changes. That's why my diesel-engined Golf is supposed to be able to do 20K between oil changes: it was set to "Variable Frequency" service intervals and had four changes in the 112K miles before I bought it. That being the ca...

RE: Re: RE: 990 slectamatic hydraulic problem, oil grade
Having nearly ruined the engine in my old Passat by trying to change to synthetic, I can only echo Scooby's concern. If changing to synthetic, change ALL the oil and filter and repeat the change at about 200-300 miles (or tractor equivalent). Then repeat the oil and filter change at 200 miles and, o...

RE: Re: RE: DB 780 - Three place control mechanism
External works such things as tipping trailers, fore loaders, diggers and any other ram that is connected to either of the two ports "1" and "2" on the three way valve to the left of the driver's seat. If you don't have the valve, there is sometimes a pipe for a tipping trailer, but it is still Exte...
