RE: 1490 Clutch Bleeding

thanks for the help. I performed the procedure as you outlined and the clutch seems good now. I don't know how it got air in it to begin with but it's fine now. Maybe the seals were hard in the winter when it failed and didn't seal properly allowing air to pass them.

RE: 1490 Clutch Bleeding

I should clarify that when it says to pump the oil up into the master cylinder reservoir it says from the slave cylinder bleed screw. When I bled it by gravity I let the oil run out from the master cylinder reservoir down and out the bleed screw on the slave cylinder.

1490 Clutch Bleeding

Hi, I had some problems during the winter with my 1490 clutch and it seemed like it might need bleeding. I am now reading about bleeding it and it says to use an oil can and push the oil up into the master cylinder. Do I have to do this or can I just let it drain out by gravity from the master cylin...

RE: 1490 Clutch Pedal Soft And Not Disengaging Clutch

Hi, Thanks for all your responses. I will try the various suggestions when I get a chance this week. The oil that the dealer gave me is called Iron Gard Hydraulic brake oil and says for use in CNH tractors hydraulically operated clutch and brake systems. The number is 86541699DS. It is light green i...

1490 Clutch Pedal Soft And Not Disengaging Clutch

Hi, I went out to do some snowblowing with my 1490 and discovered that the clutch wouldn't work and I couldn't get it into gear. The pedal was soft and wouldn't fully move the secondary cylinder. When I pumped the pedal I was able to get enough movement in the clutch secondary cylinder to move the c...

Good to hear this is a common problem. Well not good to hear, but only in the sense that I am not alone with this issue. Last year I replaced the bottom pipe and it was filled with crud as you guys have experienced. I thought I got all the crap out. I guess not though. At least I found the problem t...

RE: 1490 PTO Engagement Causes Grinding

Thanks for the responses. I'll try those suggestions and see what happens. I adjusted the clutch cable as per the shop manual so I think it's okay, although I'll check it again.

I am using Case Hy Tran and it's pretty fluid even in cold weather.

1490 PTO Engagement Causes Grinding

I was wondering if anyone has the same problem I have with my PTO engagement lever. Whenever I try to engage the PTO I always get some gear grinding that I don't like. If I pull the PTO clutch lever up and leave it there for a while whatever gear is spinning that needs to engage with the PTO lever g...

I finally found the problem after thinking I had solved this issue with a better connection at the fuel tank outlet using a new rubber fuel line clamped tightly. I made this fix during the summer and I haven't used the tractor since then. I had it out a couple of days ago blowing some snow and it wa...

RE: 1490 Left Side Brake Goes To Floor

Why is it that washing the crud out causes the system to fail? I am pretty sure the fluid is correct, I asked the Case dealer about three times if they were sure it was correct and mineral based. It doesn't say it's mineral based and just has a number on the bottle. The stuff is a real rip off. It h...

RE: 1490 Left Side Brake Goes To Floor

I was wondering the same thing about the master cylinder. I just don't understand how it doesn't leak but gets air in. I wonder if when I'm pushing it to the floor during the bleeding process the rubber piston hits a rough spot in the cylinder that is rough because it never gets contact under normal...

RE: 1490 Left Side Brake Goes To Floor

I have always bled brakes in cars and other tractors with two people without any problems. I basically just loosen the bleed screw and someone else pushes the pedal to the floor and holds it there until I tighten the bleed screw again. Then they release the pedal. As long as you have a pipe that fit...

1490 Left Side Brake Goes To Floor

Hi, I just noticed a brake fluid leak on the rubber floor mat of my 1490 and found that the rubber hoses from the brake reservoir to the brake master cylinders were loose and leaking fluid. After putting on new rubber hoses and clamps I bled the system and noticed that the right side bled fine but t...

Thanks again for the ideas. I am going to replace the plastic pipe with a steel one and connect it onto the steel tank fitting with a rubber fuel hose and clamps. I also checked the fuel bowl and it's fine. There is no dirt and the glass bowl is in good shape. The rubber seal is soft as the pump is ...
