Re: Cropmaster petrol to diesel

Hi cobbadog my 25D has a slightly thicker spacer plate behind the engine that the starter bolts up to 3/8" and petrols are 1/4" so with a diesel spacer plate with the block everything would bolt up, the diesel starter does clear the block bump - distributor -hour meter-oil pump, block frame length f...

Re: 990 Cylinder Head

Hi be sure to replace the valves original ones have a habit of heads breaking off have had two motors do it but replacement valves have never done it yet, a 1200 head also fits a 1494 no difference.

Re: Valves

Hi jazo most of the aftermarket ones are the same EX and IN but check the part numbers and with suppliers, good move changing the valves had heads come off valves on 1200 and 1494 aftermarket valves have never done it.

Re: 990 Implematic

Found the reference to it in David Brown Tractor story book part two --page 319 it is the front frame casting that is changed giving 2" longer wheel base and bonnet so an early 990 could be changed to longer by replacing the front frame casting.

990 Implematic

I was asked where the extra 2" was added to the later 990 Implematics, i always thought it was the main frame, but the part numbers are the same including the front end frame or was it done by the change from forged to fabricated front axel position have only a later one here so cant compare side to ...

Re: 990 steering problems, where do I start?

Yes check king pins for free movement, had similar on 1494 grease was not getting up from bottom placed grease nipple, drilled and threaded a mid placed grease fitting got everything free and greased and power steering was fine.

Re: Drawbar

Hi jazo building up the tip of drawbars was common practice years ago and done by the DB service if tractor was in for repair, a mild metal to metal hardface rod was used i think, the tip is not where they usually break, yours looks to have been welded to the frame in the picture if so this is where...

Re: 30C Diesel Starter Motor

Hi cobbadog have never seen one of those starters with a brass cover most were pressed steel sheet, my understanding of them is not so much speed as the torque they had to turn over a diesel, the petrol starters probably run faster on free load, as ALANJ says its all about gearing.

Cleaning Number plates

What have others found good to clean and protect brass number plates and name plates on the older tractors, should cleaning be followed by a clear coat or other.
