RE: David brown 885 over heating under load

sounds like chaff is blocking the air flow through radiator or there is a problem with the water pump.

RE: 1490 brakes

As said the 1490 has oil immersed disc brakes. The expander is similar to that of a leylands dry disc brakes. As said the brakes get snappy as they wear, this is due to the expander at its limits. You need to add an extra stationary brake disc to help solve the problem and follow the proper adjusting...

18 MPH would be correct for 2000 revs. I wouldn't be ramming it into gear as it could lead to selector problems. Either the gear stick is seized, the ball excessively worn (hard to find gears) or there's a clutch problem. The brakes seem to snap on most when they warm up especially in reverse. Id tr...

Cab off, gearbox lid off, pto box off, pull pto driveshaft out. support everything. bottom gearbox housing to trumpet housing bolts out.wheel bottom gearbox housing out with front of tractor, leaves the whole gearbox exposed as a unit. when the 4 big nuts are undone the gearbox can be took apart/rep...

RE: 1490 won

Check the injector pipes are fitted correctly on the injector pump, it is possible 2 can be mixed up ie put on the wrong union leading to wrong firing order.I done this on our 14 after a rebuild, had the same symptoms and took a while to find it.

I always thought STND at end of the number stood for standard. So i presume they are standard size pistons.

Our 1494 has hiccuping lift when running, lift drops quickly when engine is stopped and takes alot of revs to lift heavy weights. Oil and filters done. I eliminated lift piston seal by lifting a weight, moving 3 way valve to trap oil in cylinder and the lift never dropped at all. Im thinking its som...

Would have been simple to put something into the chassis number to identify real comm editions like start them with 154C etc or else a list of the chassis numbers. Suppose they never thought they would be this sought after 25 yrs later.

RE: rubbish

Shocked when I read it at first but everyone entitled to their opinions, a dedicated david brown forum maybe not best place to voice the opinion. At least you praised the work the david brown tractor club does, which everyone knows is second to none. A 135 may be more reliable but it wont out pull o...
