RE: Db1212 air intake full of water.....help!!!
Hi, I'd be thinking of blowing the manifold area (ports?) with a high pressure airline, and trying to see if the engine will turn by hand to make sure the cylinder(s) are not packed with water. I'd then consider turning it over with the starter motor with the stopper in the STOP position. If all sou...

Hi, I certainly wasn't suggesting the average DBTC forum user has little knowledge, just that there are probably far fewer experienced DB mechanics willing to post advice on here as people may think. The DB tractor was only really made in small numbers, with the newest tractor being 28 years old and...

Hi, if you check the forum there is not many contributors. Your language is fine, it is just the questions that are difficult to answer. There is no buyers guide as the DB tractors such as the 885 will have whines, noises, oil leaks and the engines will be worn - its just the nature of them. I have ...

We have posted at the same time here, but on the issue of spares, DB exported all over the world, well before the UK joined the EEC/EC/EU. A simple customs form will not be difficult to complete, and the parts being over a certain age are generally except from most customs charges. The UK does have ...

I was just about to say what erkki has just said - we are talking about a 40 year old tractor that most spare parts are no longer available for. Interest in the DB tractors in the UK is probably still high but I think people are reluctant to offer advice for the fear of being proved wrong, and the D...

This is certainly an unusual situation. If you haven't already I would drain the engine oil (and filter) and replace, as the diesel may have diluted the engine oil and raised the 'oil' level.

I'd definitely avoid repainting in any colour other than original. I think the nature of restoration is a duty to keep things as original as possible, unless unavoidable, or not obvious. If a tractor had been made up from several tractors then you would have more scope to make modification such as t...

RE: 1194 ignition switch wiring diagram
There is a diagram here:

The ignition section will probably be the same as yours, it is a basic system.

"Website down for maintenance".
A 1594 is a great tractor, one for the true DB fan.
Hydrashift is great is used correctly, and working - obviously.

Hi, you may find that making the boots easier to get on, makes them easier to get off. In other words they may keep sliding off once fitted. I think some original ones has a metal crimp ring to hold them in place, but otherwise regular gear changing may cause them to slide off over time. I have seen...

RE: Fuel pipe
a breakers yard is an option, but possibly unlikely to yield any results. Making a new one using your existing fittings (assuming you have them) is probably the best option, via a local 'motor factor' or auto specialist.

It has probably been mentioned before but there was supposedly some kind of legislation (probably European!) that prevented the use of some colours in the exhaust, and they ended up all being black. Id imagine DB bought them from an outside supplier such as 'Burgess', even though some are stamped DB...

RE: what happened to the David Brown engine molds?
Its worth remembering that many of the castings were 'bought in', as the tractor factory did not have its own foundry. I think there are a few castings (sand castings?) on the wall at the DBTC museum. Many of the gears would be produced from line diagrams etc. but I'd suspect many ended up getting t...

RE: 996 Dying when working hard or going up hill
It certainly sounds like its fuel (or lack of fuel) related. It may be worth searching for such issues in the DBTC forum, but I have heard people mention tank pipes getting blocked, or corroding off. You could try using the tractor with the tank totally full to see if that makes any difference. Appa...

RE: David Brown 995 from Childhood
Hi, this tractor would have lots of re-usable parts on it such as the optional extra power steering. The tractor could easily be done up to either 'working' condition or a higher standard. If it has sentimental value than it is 'priceless'. Many of the jobs you can do yourself but I would avoid goin...
