The SAE 50 gear oil specified in the manuals was a normal oil without any special requirements for tractors with oil immersed brakes. I see no reason for not using 80/90 gear oil but I am not an authority on oil specifications.

Have you dismantled the bypass valve and cleaned the filter and restrictor washer as Ollek instructed ?

Due to failures the timing gears were upgraded. I have a service bulletin dealing with this but I am away from home at the moment.

I have encountered this problem on a number of occasions and the problem has been the solenoid in the majority of cases

An 850 engine will fit the frame but some modifications would be required to the cooling and fuel systems and starter motor etc. A 25 engine would be ok but a little under powered due to lower cubic capacity but this is probably the easiest and best option. The brakes should hold. I will have a look through a some old manuals but I am doubtful if the brake lining specification is mentioned

The brake bands are partially submerged in gear oil. The linings wear very slowly but over a long period of time they become hard and glazed, loosing their efficiency. The brake drum surface is finely corrugated so that the contact area with the linings is increased. The brakes are normally good but...

You will in all probability require an authenticity document from an authorised club for the DVLA. The DBTC has a registration person that deals with this free of charge for Club Members. This is the easiest and cheapest option

The picture shows the correct way. The plate next to the flywheel is the opposite way.
