Re: Manifold flange removal.

These LH bits appear to be readily available on an internet search. Easy outs are another option but I prefer the straight tapered version instead of the the LH helical type as they do not tend to expand the broken piece of bolt / stud the same and do not snap off as easily when in use. Regards, John

Re: Manifold flange removal.

Hi David, long time away but still around. Regarding the seized nut / stud issue, if all else fails and the stud breaks off flush or close to the head, what I used to do, as this was a common occurance on Caterpillar 3500 series engine exhaust manifolds as used on D11s etc, was to spray penaterating...

50TD has an outing again

A couple of weeks ago, I put a new battery in the 50TD, cleaned it up and took it to one of our local country shows about 30km north of Toowoomba at Goombungee for a day out with our local vintage machinery club. I picked up this JD 4040 a couple of years ago and now set-up as my tow tractor out on ...

Re: Engine Oil Filters.

Regarding aftermarket oil filters, on my 50TD crawler, I was having oil pressure issues,so I removed the existing filter housing (only one was fitted, not a twin set-up as shown in my parts book), made an adaptor block from 1" thick steel, bolted this to the engine block and remote mounted a caniste...

Re: Many DB tractors plus many others up for auction soon here in Queensland

Missed out on the 50D & 2D as mentioned in previous post in last Saturdays auction, The 50D sold for $34,000 after some active bidding and the 2 D went for $7000. Also an early Cropmaster for $2500 and a DB 2 furrow plough for $900. Would have looked good behind my Cropmaster but someone wanted it m...

Re: Many DB tractors plus many others up for auction soon here in Queensland

Here are a couple of results from this sale. There are another two of these up for sale this Saturday along with more than a hundred other vintage and classic tractors etc. These can be viewed at this website: www.bundabergauctions.com.au/. Hopefully, I may be lucky enough to get one or two of these...

Re: Case DB Crawlers

Someone I know is looking for a replacement engine for a 580B backhoe/loader, it would have had the Case engine fitted and if a replacement can not be found, what alternative engine could be adapted to fit? Someone else was using it and left it parked with the exhaust left uncovered and the engine f...

Many DB tractors plus many others up for auction soon here in Queensland

Here is a link to an interesting clearing sale where there are quite a few DB tractors up for grabs. Unfortunately I will not get to it though as it is located about 500 km or 6 hours drive north of my location. http://raywhitebiloela.com.au/properties/clearing-sale/qld/valentine-plains-4715/uncateg...

Re: 2D Information

DB2D, I have sent you a PM. David, I have not seen the Dexter crawler before, so it is a new project on the go.There are a few interesting tractor adaptions included such as a radio controlled Ford 8N, and a V8 flathead conversion in another 8N.. Steering may be done with brakes on each side of the ...

2D Information

There is a 2D coming up for auction in my local area in a few months time (along with over a hundred other tractors) which I am interested in and would appreciate tips on these tractors and what to look out for as I have had nothing to do with them in the past. There at least a couple of other DBs a...

Re: Repowered 50 TD

Regarding availability of parts, I think hens'teeth may be easier to find. Must admit though I had a couple of luck breaks when restoring my 50TD Mk2. Needed a full set of gears and crown-wheel & pinion and picked them up from a farmer in New Zealand. Ended up with 3 15kg packages arriving at our lo...

Case with DB name label

Went to a small farm auction clearing sale last week-end and one of the tractors put up was a Case 970 with only 4400hrs on it. On each side of the nose cowl were Case David Brown name tags. This was common here in the mid-70s on the 70 series Case tractors which ranged from the 870 through to the 1...

Re: Oil filter 50TD crawler

Erik, Here are two photos that show how I connected up and mounted my filter. The adapter plate bolted to the block is 12 mm thick steel which was faced up using emery paper on a piece of plate glass and the hoses are 12 mm single wire braid hydraulic hoses. I also fitted a hydraulic test point fitt...

Re: Oil filter 50TD crawler

Erik, my 50TD Mk2 was only fitted with a single filter housing and to improve oil filter efficiency (filtering and oil flow), I made up a steel adapter plate which was drilled & tapped to take a pair of hydraulic hoses connected to a remote mounted filter. Filter heads are readily available and the ...
