Re: Cab

Also a good idea to make a cardboard template of every window glass in case of breakage. I made a big mistake by using Fairy Liquid as a lubricant when putting the glass back in, didn't know at the time how much salt was in Fairy now some rust is reappearing. Always use rubber lubricant like the tyr...

Re: Cab

I have done two Q cab refurbs on my 990 and 1210 and in both cases removed the cabs from the tractor. All panels are bolted to the main safety frame but not all are easily removed with the cab in situ. First of all VERY carefully remove all cab glass by taking out the centre sealing rubber strip in ...

Re: Exaust pipes

Bought a new silencer for my restored 1210 a couple of years ago, nicely made and enameled but when I fired the tractor up the silencer rose and fell with the tractor revs. Looking down the pipe I could not see through so obviously there were baffles in there. I asked the question on this forum what...

Re: Tyre Swap

The quickest way I have seen is to leave the rim on the tractor, which means that you have something rigid and heavy (the tractor) to work against. Place the short lengths of angle iron against the tyre edge where it joins the rim and bash with the sledge to loosen the tyre. The other advantage is t...

Re: piston rings and bearing shells

I converted my Q cab 990 to a liquid type oil pressure gauge some years ago with good results and greater peace of mind. I basically went on E Bay and if memory serves me right most of the bits were from a modification kit for a Mini Cooper. The original fitting in the block is replaced with a T fit...

Re: Help if possible please.

Hi Scooby I have a DB990 Q cab and later fitted a LQ9 Power loader which has given amazing service over the last 40 odd years, lifting way more than it should and loading grain with an enlarged DB bulk bucket. in fact the whole tractor and loader combination have punched well above their weight. Whe...

Adjusting spool valve

Hi Having got my hedge trimmer lift ram fixed, new seals. I now find that my external spool valve kicks out just about every time I use the main spool block and I have to reset the spool valve handle forward or back from the mid neutral position. There is a sort of "nose" type extension on the spool...

Re: Ruined Fuel - 885

How about using a tank cutter tool and cutting a decent sized hole where you can access the tank, swill it all out and drill a ring of bolts around the hole and bolt a cover plate and gasket over it.

Could it be part of an old weight transfer system to improve traction in poor conditions.

Single Acting Hydraulic Ram

I have an old Bomford Express hedgetrimmer with a single acting hydraulic ram to lower the first arm and machine head by gravity and lift by hydraulic pressure. After sitting unused for a year we tried it out on the 990, everything worked but the single acting ram would only lift about halfway. I am...

Re: Case/David Brown 990 selectamatic mystery part

Long time since I have been in there but I seem to remember a similar dowel/pin seen from the rear. If you remove the square plate from the right hand rear you will see 2 or 3 controls which are activated by the selector switch in the cab for position, draft and TCU. One of these has a slide with a ...

Re: LQ12 Loader on a 1212?

Often wondered about David Brown loaders and about what differs with loaders between tractor models. Is it the frame or the loader arms? It would seem unlikely that with DBs Yorkshire heritage much money would be wasted so are the loader arms say the same for 700s, a little bigger for 900s and then ...
