Will a 1690 3-way valve work on a 996?

They look similar but the handle is facing the wrong direction. I can get a good deal on a new one for a 1690, but was wondering if anyone knew if it would adapt to my 996? Or will the internals work or even the handle? I think mine is bad but I haven't had it apart yet, just trying to get some spar...

The pawl and spring are still available from Case/IH here in the states for about $15 US. Thanks CK for asking this question. I was wondering as well because its something I need to fix on my 996.

Thanks Tassie for the link to Case/IH. I hadn't thought to look there, unfortunately, like Alchad found out the manual is close to $500. Thats crazy! The one on Ebay looks just like the manual I found on Agrimanuals at least its showing the same pictures. Agri is selling that manual for about half w...

RE: Looking for a good shop manual

Well thats about what I figured as far as the older manuals availability. My problem is that this is my first tractor and hence first David Brown. The I&T manual I have does not list 996 on the cover though I realize the model is close to the 995. So it says nothing of the hand clutch for the PTO or...

Looking for a good shop manual

Anyone know where I can find an original or copy of a shop manual for a 1971 996? I have an I&T one that covers a range of models and though it's adequate for general repairs I would like to have something that gives more torque specs and systems information. I checked the club shop but there were n...

Thanks all for the info. When I do the blast and paint sometime in the future, should I rebadge it as a 996 or put the 995 back on? I will probably try to keep it as original as possible at least thats my intentions for now. Thanks Broadsword for the link, I had read that post before but it was a he...

What year 996? and other things

Finally bought a Brown about a month ago and just got it home last week. It's a 996 based on the serial number (995/6 980275) and hand clutch for the PTO but it has 995 badging. Was this common or was the bonnet changed? The numbers do match between the data plate on the fender and front frame casti...

The best liquid penetrant I have found is AeroKroil. A close secound would be Mouse Milk or LPS 2. I am not sure if these products are available in the UK though you might search for them.

Thanks Mitch. Those are a bit bigger than what I need. I actually could do fine with a smaller one. I only have a little over 2 acres. Just need something to moving things around and grade my driveway. Here is the add for the one I looked at http://www.tractorshed.com/cgi-bin/photoads/classifieds.cg...

Donn,

I am located in Lexington SC. The tractor is near Pittsburgh PA. It would start in neutral and go into first and reverse just fine but no other gears. A friend got it into second one time but that was it.

I am a regional jet mechanic for a small US airline. So, I tend to work on just about everything, though I like to know what I am getting into before I spend my money on a new machine. Having no DB experience I am warry about buying one that partially works. Thanks for your suggestions to the proble...

995 Problems

Just wanted to say that I have found this forum very informative in the last few days. I recently found an early 70's 995 with a loader for what I thought to be a good price. Today I was able to get out and look at it and found it to be in worse shape than I expected. The main problems I found were ...
