Re: 990 Implematic Pick Up Hitch

I thought the same when I saw the comments on latches. We had a 770 with a PUH and fairly sure it locked on the lower link lock. It had solid lift rods.
I could be wrong though, its a long time ago

Re: Dash lights.

The oil light must be finding an earth if the switch is working correctly. The wiring should be positive feed to the light through the ignition switch. The earth goes back to the pressure switch which is on, when zero pressure and turns off as pressure picks ups, thus extinguishing the light. I gues...

Re: 990 PTO power

To add a bit more confusion. There was no standard until the early 60's on splines. When PTOs first came in manufacturers went for their own sizes to encourage customers to use their equipment. I believe some early Fergie 20's have a non standard shaft size gradually the sizes became standard but it...

Re: Selectamatic 880A second stage clutch won't depress

I will bow to your better judgement, as said it was a long time ago and probably a nice smooth patch of concrete was in short supply at the time I remember, could be near 60 years. It was when I learnt how things worked

Re: Selectamatic 880A second stage clutch won't depress

others will correct me, but do you have to split this tractor? It is pushing 50 years since I helped do the clutch on one of these earlier DB's but I know some of them you just took steering box off gearbox top off and pulled out the PTO shaft. It may be easier to split to be honest if you have the ...

Re: David Brown 4600 power steering cylinder.

To be honest , I drove those smaller tractors from a young age and never had power steering on any. I would not take too much trouble sorting an issue unless you have real issues. Do be aware though that any tractor without power steering is liable to kick back if it it hits a rock , so learn to kee...

Re: 950 Electrics

I suspect it is another faulty regulator. But first check the dynamo is actually producing power by pulling off a lead and checking the voltage produced, should be about 16 volts? so long since I worked on one that I forget.
The regulator should then adjust this to the battery level

Re: Third service

I am going to make some assumptions here and my apologies if I offend Firstly I guess from the pictures, you do not want to spend too much :) Secondly you probably do not employ anyone, inn which case although HSE would not approve it is not strictly illegal to do the following The spool, block in t...

Re: Third service

if the grab is double acting , it will get very messy with a lot of pipes but it can be done. Easiest with a twin spool block which is either or. Then you just put push both levers to get oil to go to the angling ram or to the grab Be careful to get your plumbing right or you will end up with a dead...

Re: Db 1210 air locking

another thing it can be is a very vine leak in the pipe from the tank to the lift pump, generally at the grommet. air will gradually enter and eventually stop the engine

Re: Help please with 885 tractors

if these tractors are in good order it may be worth considering speaking to Cheffins the auctioneers at Sutton Near Ely They do regular quarterly sales of vintage tractors and David Browns if they are straight normally sell quite well. Do be careful, and ask about sale charges but even Ebay is quite...

Re: Fuel shut-off solenoid Case 1394

it would be an easy conversion, we fitted those to a couple of irrigation pumps which used Perkins engines ex MF combines. These were fitted as part of a package from Murphy to give auto start stop engine oil pressure and temperature etc

Re: David brown 880 red Selectamatic 1963

might have posted this before, but my father had a 770 and a 990 on order from our local dealer. He was not best pleased when the salesman called to say that the tractors were in but they were white and brown. tried to screw some extra discount into the deal :D
Very exciting day when they turned up!
